What Is Hudson & Rex?

Hudson & Rex is a hugely popular Canadian TV series set in the fictional St John’s police department.  It follows the adventures of Detective Charlie Hudson and his canine partner Rex, a German Shepherd who has undergone multi-scent training and also has super sensitive hearing.  Charlie, Rex and other team members investigate a different case each week.

Fun Hudson & Rex Facts

  • Hudson & Rex is a remake/reimagining of the Austrian-Italian TV show Kommissar Rex which first aired in 1994 and ran until 2015.
  • Diesel vom Burgimwald, the dog actor who plays Rex, is allegedly descended from Santo vom Haus Zieglmayer who played the first version of Rex (or Reginald von Ravenhorst to give him his full name)
  • Diesel doesn’t do all of his own stunts.  Sometimes his nephews Izzy and Iko stand in.
