Reign of Ice has 25 lines and can be played from 10p a spin.  The RTP including the jackpot contribution and the tokens is 96.07% – without either it is 92.08%.

  • Play Ozzy Osbourne at Slots Rush
Up To £150 Bonus & 150 Spins (across 3 deposits)

Ozzy Osbourne Video Slots is a 20 line slot game by NetEnt themed on the charismatic British rock star otherwise known as the Prince Of Darkness.  Trigger a re-spin or better still the free spins bonus round to activate the Symbol Spinner and the Feature Spinner and apply a bonus feature to one of the symbols; in the bonus round this happens on each spin and the effects last for the duration of the free spins which can build up to some big wins.   The Bonus Bet feature doubles the stake to increase the number of initial free spins from 4 to 5 and increase the possible multipliers during free spins.

Ozzy Osbourne can be played from 20p a spin (40p if Bonus Bet is activated) and has RTP of 96.30% without Bonus Bet or 96.67% with Bonus Bet.

  • Play Reel Rush 2 at Lucky VIP Casino
    Deposit £10 - £100, Get 150% Slot Bonus

Reel Rush 2 by Net Ent is the sequel to the original Reel Rush game from 2013.  Like the original, it has classic platformer video game styling and a distinctive 45 way diamond shaped reels arrangement, with extra positions that are unlocked on respins after every won, increasing the numbers of ways to win up to a maximum of 1875 ways on the fifth respin.  Starting with only one symbol in play on reel 1 (which can’t be a wild), it can be hard to get the string of wins going but there are some random bonus features that help by awarding a re-spin on a loss, turning symbols wild or unlocking extra parts of the play area.  Reel Rush 2 also has a 3125 way Free Spins bonus round (triggered by unlocking the whole of the play area) which turns into Super Free Spins (with a progressive multiplier going up on every win) if the player has collected enough tokens through play, gambles or pays to top them up to the required 2000.

Basically, this is a buy the bonus round slot – but instead of being able to buy it straight off (which is no longer allowed in the UK), you have to wait for the basic bonus round to be triggered before you can buy the upgrade.

Reel Rush 2 can be played from 20p a spin and has RTP of 95.53%  – 96.58%; the variable RTP is because there is a slightly higher RTP attached to buying Super Tokens to upgrade the bonus round than to playing it as is or gambling.

88 Fortunes Megaways by Scientific Games is a Megaways reboot of the original slot game from 2016, itself based on a physical slot machine.  It has up to 117,649 ways to win depending on how many symbols land on each of the 6 reels, and the extra horizontal reel adjacent to reels 2-5 and exploding wins feature that are common to a great many Megaways slots.

The special feature of 88 Fortunes Megaways is the option to play with anything from 1 to 5 gold symbols; turning a symbol gold makes wins worth 20x more or thereabouts, but changes the base stake; the cheapest spin is 8p with one gold symbol and 88p with all 5.  RTP varies from 96.06% to 96.36%.

88 Fortunes Megaways also has a free spins bonus round which can be triggered either by scatters or via a pick-me feature (randomly awarded by the Fu Bat wild symbol) which also awards a starting multiplier.

Mystery Reels Power Reels by Red Tiger is the successor to Mystery Reels and Mystery Reels Megaways.  It’s connected to the Red Tiger Daily Jackpots and is played on a 6×7 array.  The 30 winlines pay both ways.

The gimmick of this slot is the (rather rare) Mystery Symbol which is 2×2 in size and can land anywhere, anytime; when it does, it spreads a random number of clones across the reels and all turn to the same random winning symbol (which may be a wild).

Mystery Reels Power Reels has RTP of 95.67% including the progressive jackpot contribution and can be played from 10p a spin.

  • Play Age of the Gods: Apollo Power at Betfair Casino
100% Slot Bonus Up To £200 + 100 Free Spins

Age of the Gods: Apollo Power is the latest in Playtech’s Age of the Gods series of progressive jackpot slots.  It is played on a 6×4 array and has 50 paylines.

The game has two types of wild symbol, regular and blazing.  Land a blazing wild anywhere on the reels to trigger the slot’s only bonus feature (apart from the Age of the Gods jackpot game) Apollo Power Respins.  During the respins, the blazing wild moves one step at a time in a random direction, leaving a trail of wilds behind it.  The respins continue until the blazing wild lands back on its trail (unless another blazing wild lands in the meantime in which case the process is repeated) Depending on where the blazing wild originally landed and what turns up on the reels during the respins, this can result in big wins – or nada.

Age of the Gods: Apollo Power can be played from 25p a spin and has RTP of 96.47% including the 0.99% progressive jackpot contribution.

    * New customers in UK/Ire only. Min buy-in £20, max buy-in £200. 40x wagering requirement on Casino Promotional Balance. Game weighting applies. 100 free spins triggered after bonus used/wagering requirement completed. Full T&Cs apply.

Deposit & Spend £10, Get 200% Bingo Bonus, 50 Free Spins (Cleopatra) & £10 Mecca Club Vouchers

Golden Leprechaun Megaways by Red Tiger has the ever popular theme of Irish luck.  The base game is classic Megaways with up to ways to win and exploding wins, but there’s a lot more to the game than that.  The Lucky Leprechaun can appear at any time offering a pick of three different mushrooms each of which lead to a different bonus feature – Lucky Ways which swaps symbols to guarantee a win, Random Wilds which adds up to 5 extra wilds and Wild Stacks which turns up to 4 reels wild with a multiplier based on the size of the reel.

There’s also a free spins bonus round with an increasing multiplier; at the start of the bonus round the pick-me runs to determine which of the three features will be active throughout.

Golden Leprechaun Megaways can be played from 10p a spin and has RTP of 94.72%.

  • Play Well Of Wishes at Pots of Luck
    Deposit & Play £10, Get £30 Bingo Bonus & 50 Starburst Spins

Well of Wishes is a new slot game that is part of Red Tiger’s daily jackpot series.  Some larger operators have their own daily jackpot and others operate across networks of skins.   As well as a daily jackpot that is guaranteed to drop before midnight, the game has two other progressive jackpots (one with and one without a ceiling value).

The game itself is a 10 line slot with two bonus features.  Lucky Coins symbols can land on any spin: as well as scoring as wilds they are collected and stored.  Once a collection of 5 coins is completed they are thrown into the wishing well which turns all symbols of the same random type wild.  Lucky Spins symbols trigger the free spins bonus round and to make it easier to collect three of them, any Lucky Spin symbols that turn up lock in place for the following spin.  During the bonus round, extra free spins can be added by completing a collection of Lucky Coins and any symbols turned wild by the Wishing Well stay wild until the end of the bonus round.

Well of Wishes has RTP of 93.08% and can be played at stake levels from 10p to £40 a spin.

    * New players only, Code BINGOSTAR. Valid on 1st deposit only. Min Deposit £10, 300% Match up to £30 in bingo bonus funds (5x wagering, 4x conversion) + 50 bonus spins valid on Starburst (30x wagering, 4x conversion), Full T&Cs apply.

New Slot Games – December 2019

What can we expect in terms of slot game releases for the rest of 2019 and for 2020?  As far as 2020 goes, a key event is the ICE iGaming industry mega show, a huge showcase for upcoming titles which takes place in February. Many flagship titles get their first exposure there; in 2019 these included Net Ent’s Ozzy Osbourne and Microgaming’s Village People Macho Moves as well the sequels to Da Vinci Diamonds, Pixies of the Forest and Agent Jane Blonde.

2019 has also been all about Megaways slots  and buying and/or gambling the bonus round.  In October 2019 the Gambling Commission took action to have most slot games with a straightforward “buy the bonus round” facility removed from the UK market, but the concept most definitely has not gone away as it is still possible to trigger the bonus round in many 2019 slots by collecting coins as you play.  Indeed, in the Kingdoms Rise slots Playtech has taken this much further by attaching an in game shop where players can use their saved coins to purchase bonus rounds that are not otherwise available.  We’ve also seen other related features take centre stage:

  • Super Bet – first rolled out in games such as Foxin’ Wins, this allows players to change with variance of the game by increasing their stake to make bonus features potentially more lucrative.  Variations on this theme are now very frequent – for example, in 88 Fortunes Megaways where players can pay to turn up to 4 extra symbols gold.
  • Pay to respin – this idea first saw the light of day in Slingo games and then in Eyecon‘s Rebets Splendour, and now several new releases have it including Microgaming’s Break Da Bank Again Respin by Microgaming.  Players can pay to respin individual reels (each priced separately) to try to form or improve a win, or to trigger the bonus round.  This can involve spending a lot more than the original spin value.
  • Gamble the bonus round – first seen in Big Time Gaming’s seminal (and now not playable from the UK) game Extra Chilli, this allows players to gamble a bonus round which they have just won or purchased in the hope of getting a better bonus round with more spins, a better starting multiplier or whatever.  In later games the concept was modified so that there was less danger of losing the bonus round completely on a gamble and in the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire slot the entire point of the bonus round is to gamble.

All of these features increase the variance of the game in question and in 2019, high variance is certainly in fashion.  The success of Big Time Gaming, Elk and other small studios specialising in high volatility slots shows how many players prefer the thrill of slot games with high volatility, to slowly losing money to a low volatility slot.

One thing that we do expect to see in 2020 is more slot games with darker and/or more adult themes as game providers steer away from any content such as cartoon animals that might conceivably appeal to children. Even characters such as the leprechaun from Rainbow Riches have turned out to be problematic; the ASA and the Gambling Commission want such characters to be hidden from under 18s, so only visible after login.  This makes it much harder for new slot games including these elements to be promoted as they can only be shown to existing players; we don’t expect them to vanish entirely but we expect them to make up a smaller proportion of new releases.

With so many new slot games being released by so many game providers every week, most are destined to sink without much of a trace and only a few can become tomorrow’s Starburst, Immortal Romance or Bonanza.  Megaways, the trend started by Bonanza, is starting to look a bit overdone now and maybe it’s time for the next big thing in 2020?

As for the rest of 2019 – there’s still a few hotly anticipated titles in the pipeline including Reel Rush 2 and Ozzy Osbourne, but once we get into December, what to expect is Christmas themed slots.  Be aware though that many of these are not really new, but are older games which have been given a seasonally themed reskin – for example, 2018’s Jingle Spin from NetEnt which was a reskin of their EggOMatic slot game.  Christmas themed slots are also often hidden until after login, espcially if they feature Santa, elves or any other seasonal characters that might be considered to have particular appeal to under 18s.
