Pirates Plenty Megaways

Updated: 5th Mar 2024
Our slot of the month for April is Pirates Plenty Megaways – one of Red Tiger’s latest Megaways slot games. Released on the 8th, this swashbuckling slot is proving a big hit with players – it seems the appeal of BGT’s famed engine is showing no signs of waning. But in this instance, it’s not just about shape-shifting reels – PPM is graced by a raft of bonus extras such as special wilds and free spin features that can generate some serious pay-outs. So how does it look?
Theme/Visuals
PPM is actually the third installment in a series of successful pirate-themed slots from Red Tiger, the others being Sunken Treasure and Battle for Gold. This latest version retains many elements found in the first two games including monkey wilds and the old treasure map functionality.
Once the game is loaded, players are greeted with an animated sword-wielding female pirate who gives way to a six reel game area. This is set against the stern of a pirate ship complete with wooden deck staircases.
Play is accompanied by the kind of generic stock soundtrack that’s to be found in hundreds of Hollywood movies spanning multiple genres (think Pirates of the Caribbean). This fades out between spins to be replaced with the sound of a creaking ship.
How to Play Pirates Plenty Megaways
Low value symbols are signified by gem-like playing card imagery, while medium to high symbols are represented by a bottle of grog, a pistol, a cannon, a pirate’s hat and a skull and cross bones.
To win you’ll need to land three, four, five or six of these in combination. The skull and cross bones symbol is the most valuable, paying out 3.5 your stake if it appears six times across a pay-line. And as with all Megaways titles, the cascading reels engine is in play with winning symbols falling off the reels to be replaced with new ones.
Bonus Features
Pirate’s Plenty Megaways includes four bonus features: Wild Ways, Lady Anne Wild, Wild Monkey and Free Spins.
The Wild Ways Feature
The Wild Ways feature is activated by unveiling map icons across the reels – these move a pirate ship in tiny increments across a map at the top of the game area. Collect enough and an additional row surfaces on the middle four reels, thus boosting the Megaways to 200,704. The Lady Anne Wild feature is also unlocked.
Lady Anne Wilds Feature
Lady Anne wilds substitute for all paying symbols and can expand across the middle four reels. She also comes with multipliers ranging from x3 to x8 and remains sticky until a winning combination is landed.
Wild Monkey Feature
The Wild Monkey is retained from the previous games and appears, very, very occasionally. If you’re lucky enough to unveil this shy and retiring character, he’ll replace all low paying symbols with more valuable ones and become sticky for the first spin as well as any re-spins that follow.
Free Spins
To access the free spins bonus, you’ll need to land at least three free spins scatter symbols. 9 spins will then be awarded for the first three scatters with an extra three spins added to each extra scatter that you unveil. During the feature, an unlimited progressive multiplier is applied to each winning combo.
Conclusion
Many of the staple elements found in the first two Pirates Plenty Games have been retained for the sake of continuity. And thematically the game is fine. In terms of game play, the high volatility means that small wins are of course regular. Despite this, you may find yourself drifting in the doldrums at times given that there aren’t really any show-stopping features to speak of. Happily though, the game is saved by the expanding multiplier wilds and the Wild Ways feature. But it’s the free spins bonus where the big pay-outs are to be had thanks to those progressive win multipliers. So all in all, a worthy addition to Red Tiger’s buccaneering slot game franchise even though there are better Megaways games out there.
