London Tube is our slot of the month for July. This latest release from Red Tiger includes a number of entertaining features including a train arrival bonus round, unlimited free spins (potentially), cash prizes and multipliers. Although the top potential payout isn’t much to write home about, the base game and bonus rounds are pretty engaging.
The London Underground is of course the setting for this 5 x 4 slot, with an empty station and a train serving as the backdrop for the game area. The reels themselves are populated with various animated characters that you might come across on a jam-packed journey underneath the sprawling, overcrowded metropolis that is London.
Theme-wise, the game looks fine although strangely, the station isn’t lined with row upon row of expressionless commuters. A non-descript guitar strain struggles on the background which seems a bit out of place.
How to Play London Tube
Low value symbols are made up of playing card symbols decorated with a (sshh!) union jack. Medium to high value symbols are represented by the aforementioned characters and include a kid on the phone, a girl with headphones on, and old lady and policeman.
The latter is the most valuable and will pay out 4x your stake if you manage to land him five times across one of the pay-lines. Fittingly, a newspaper serves as the wild and performs its usual task of replacing other symbols to hopefully create winning pay-lines.
It also pays 4x your stake if you land it five times in combination. You’ve also got a pair of scatter symbols: Tube symbols, Train scatters.
During the base game, spins are organised into groups of 10. This is represented by a counter that’s installed above the reels. Tube symbols can appear on any spins apart from the tenth. When they do, they’ll leave behind a golden frame which remains locked in position.
Should another tube symbol land within the frame it will duplicate itself onto another reel. On the tenth spin, the Train arrival kicks in and a train arrives at an adjacent station in the background.
To activate this feature, you’ll need at least one frame on the reels by the time the tenth spin comes around. One of the following will then be awarded:
- Wilds – all golden frames turn into wilds and substitutes paying symbols
- Ways Multiplier – a multiplier of up to x10 is applied to all positions where a golden frame lies
- Cash Prize – random cash prizes are awarded between 1x and 50x your stake
The bonus round is triggered by landing at least three train scatter symbols. You’ll then receive 9, 12 or 15 free spins depending on how many triggering scatters you manage. Three golden frames will in play for the duration of the round and will change position as it plays out. Wilds, cash prizes and multipliers are active as well.
A tube map will appear during the bonus round. Each time a scatter appears, it will move the train on to the next station, with every third station featuring a bonus. This includes bonus spins, extra golden frames and win multipliers.
Although the max-win potential is a little underwhelming, this somewhat undercooked Red Tiger slot game is actually very entertaining. The 10 spin cycle is fairly unique while the bonus features that it can activate are engaging. The addition of the golden frames adds further to what amounts to solid effort from Red Tiger. If only they’d raise t hat low max win potential though.
