What is Paysafe?
The Paysafe Group plc is a payments solutions provider with more than 20 years of experience in the iGaming industry. Their portfolio of products includes the e-wallets Skrill and Neteller as well as Paysafecard (which is what people are normally referring to when they say “paysafe”) and all of these products have a long history of use as deposit methods at online casinos and slot sites.
Paysafecard is a prepaid voucher payment system, available at more than 600,000 outlets in nearly 50 countries and similar to the now defunct Ukash (which they took over and absorbed several years ago). You can buy a Paysafecard voucher with cash and use it to make payments online without any need for a credit card or bank account. Paysafe also offer an online Paysafecard account which can be used to manage multiple Paysafecard voucher codes and has many of the characteristics of an e-wallet as well as a number of other advantages, as we shall see.
Getting started with paysafecard
Getting started with paysafe is really simple! Go buy a Paysafecard voucher with a 16 digit code from a petrol station or convenience store near you; to locate an outlet, enter your postcode on the Paysafecard site and your nearest stockists will be shown on a map. You can even get directions on how to get there from your current location! The cards come in demoninations of £10, £25, £40, £50, £75 and £100 (plus £125, £150 and £175 which are only available from PayPoint). Do make sure that you buy a Classic voucher code and not a Junior voucher code (the latter is for under 18s and can’t be used for gambling transactions).
The next step is to register for a myPaysafe online account and upload your card by entering your 16 digit code. You will need an email address and mobile phone number for 2 factor authentication. Up to £2000 worth of voucher codes can be added to a myPaysafe account annually; to remove this cap you can undergo an enhanced account verification procedure by uploading photo ID.
You don’t have to open a myPaysafe account, but there are several reasons why it’s a good idea to do so.
- Once you’ve uploaded your Paysafecard by entering the 16 digit code, you don’t have to enter the code again in order to make payments from it – all you need is your login credentials
- You can manage your balance across multiple vouchers
- You can apply for a Paysafecard prepaid Mastercard (be aware there’s an annual fee for this plus additional fees when you top up or withdraw cash from an ATM)
- There’s a Paysafe smartphone app to help you manage payments safely and securely while out and about
- You can top up a myPaysafe account with larger amounts using paysafecard direct. It’s a function on the app that lets you generate a barcode for the amount you want to top up, have it scanned at an outlet and pay over the cash; the money appears in your myPaysafe account instantly with no need to enter a code.
- The fees are lower. Unregistered Paysafecard codes are charged a service fee of £3 a month on the outstanding balance from the 2nd month. MyPaysafe accounts only attract a monthly fee (of £5 regardless of the number of codes) if no transactions have been done for an entire year.
- The transaction limits are higher – just £40 per transaction for unregistered Paysafecards versus £1000 for registered ones
- You don’t have to worry about losing the card and/or forgetting the code
- And last but not least, in 2026 the majority of online casinos and slots sites that accept Paysafe don’t allow codes to be used directly and require you to log into a myPaysafe account to pay with Paysafecard.
How to use paysafecard to make a deposit at an online casino
On the cashier screen, enter the amount you want to deposit and select Paysafecard as the payment method. The Paysafecard login screen will appear in a new window (and there’s also a sign up button in case you already have a 16 digit code but haven’t yet opened a myPaysafe account). Complete the deposit at Paysafe and return to the casino where you’ll find your deposit ready and waiting to be played with.
Advantages of paysafecard
- Using paysafecard to deposit means you can easily keep track of your spending, and the need to visit an outlet to top up is an obstacle to overspending
- You can pay cash for the paysafecard voucher
- You don’t need to give any bank or card details to the casino or slot site, or send over the internet
- There’s no charges (apart from any fee the outlet charges for issuing the voucher) as long as you use your myPaysafe account at least once a year
Disadvantages of paysafecard
- In most cases you won’t be able to withdraw from an iGaming account to a myPaysafe account and will need to use a different payment method (usually a bank transfer) to withdraw.
- A few big name operators have enabled payouts, but the transaction limit tends to be low and it’s not possible to transfer onward to a bank account from a Paysafe account so you’ll probably need an (expensive) paysafe prepaid Mastercard for this to be a viable option for withdrawing winnings.
- Paysafe voucher codes are like cash, so if you lose the code or it is compromised there’s not much you can do. You can block a code by filling in a form on the Paysafecard website, but this will only protect credit that hasn’t already been used.
Safety and security with Paysafe
Using a paysafecard voucher to deposit at an online casino or slot site does not give you any anonymity with the operator; they will still need to carry out “Know Your Customer” ID checks and financial vulnerability checks. It does, however, mean that you don’t have to give them your bank or card details (until you need to withdraw winnings, of course).
The Paysafe system itself is very secure (they say it is un-hackable) and online accounts are protected with 2FA. The main threat comes from scammers obtaining voucher codes. Never give your code to a third party no matter who they say they are!
Paysafe and casino bonuses
Deposits made with paysafecard and other prepaid voucher systems are frequently excluded from welcome bonus offers and other promotions. Casinos do this because historically, deposit methods which can be funded with cash have been susceptible to large scale, organised bonus abuse.
This means it is really important to read the small print if you are thinking of using Paysafe to take up a deposit offer at an online casino, to check whether a paysafecard deposit is eligible for the bonus.
Which slot sites accept paysafecard?
Paysafecard is not as widely accepted at online gambling sites as it has been in the past but there are still plenty of online casinos that accept it. You will almost certainly have to register for a MyPaysafe account to be able to deposit with Paysafe.
Alternatives to paysafecard
If you specifically want a prepaid voucher system, the other one of these that is accepted at many UK facing casinos and slot sites is Neosurf. It’s easier to extract money from a Neosurf account (not that this matters as currently none of them allow withdrawals to Neosurf) and the voucher codes can be used directly for deposits, but it can be quite expensive to use.

The future of Paysafe
Paysafe clearly want all their users to open an online account (probably because it makes it easier for them to comply with anti money laundering legislation) and are using fees and transaction limits to persuade them to do so as well as adding extra features to the app. The app and online account already have many of the characteristics of an e-wallet and we can surmise that paysafecard is in the process of being repositioned as a payment method that has the safety and convenience of an e-wallet while retaining the ability to fund with cash that is the USP of voucher systems. If it weren’t for the large number of operators who have excluded Paysafe deposits from promotions, and the even larger number that haven’t enabled withdrawals to MyPaysafe, paysafecard would have a very bright future in the iGaming sphere.
