Spin Genie began life more than a decade ago as a popular slot site powered by Gaming Realms. It’s now moved to Skill On Net.
In its original incarnation all the way back in 2014, Spin Genie featured a gamification scheme in which players were sent on a journey through the world of Spin the Dog, collecting treasure as they went.
This was all heavily advertised on TV looking VERY much like a kid’s video game, which would never be allowed now. In fact you could argue that the restrictions we now have on advertising imagery and on gamification are all Spin’s fault, as it was the complaints about that ad (and another case about the now defunct site Slotser) that set the ball in motion which eventually led to the purge of cartoon characters from iGaming sites in 2017.
Even before that, Spin and his treasure hunt had to go! After that, various things were tried including introducing a multiplayer Slingo game, using Louie Spence (of Pineapple Dance fame) as the frontman, keeping the treasure map gamification for logged in players only, and adding some bingo rooms (on the proprietary Grizzly platform). None of these innovations stuck and in the end Spin Genie (along with every other Bear Group iGaming site) suddenly closed at the end of 2019.
It wasn’t too long, however, before Spin Genie returned on the Skill On Net platform (in summer 2020, so just a few months later).
Today Spin Genie has carved out its own space in the online casino world, offering literally thousands of slot games from industry-leading providers, as well as many classic table games like blackjack and roulette.
Signing up to Spin Genie is a straightforward process. Hit the Join button in the top-right corner of the screen and fill in your basic info – you’ll need to include your email, date of birth and mobile number and then pick a username and password. Once your account is confirmed you can make your first deposit and start playing.
Spin Genie offers a good selection of deposit methods including all major debit cards, PayPal, PaysafeCard, Skrill, Trustly and Apple Pay.
Like with any online casino, first-time users can enjoy a welcome bonus. Deposit £10 and you’ll get 108 Free Spins to play on one specific slot – the ‘iconic’ Thor slot machine. Spin Genie like to market this offer as ‘astounding’, and it is a little different from a lot of other introductory offers we’ve seen, but it’s not exactly mind-blowing, or that generous, particularly as you can only enjoy the resulting benefits on one game and there’s a rather hefty wagering requirement.
Bingo players are well catered to on Spin Genie by the inclusion of Pragmatic Play bingo rooms. There’s a good choice of games, from classic 80 ball and 90 ball bingo to 75 ball and 30 ball ‘speed’ bingo and several kinds of bingo that are exclusive to Pragmatic Play:
There’s also the Drop Pots room with three progressive jackpots, plus any seasonal specials Pragmatic Play are currently running.
All in all, we’re fairly impressed with Spin Genie’s efforts in the bingo department. There’s a good choice of different game types and from what we can tell the rooms are a good level of busy.
There’s more than 1,000 slot games to explore – a great many more than the original version of the site had. Popular games include the BIg Bass Bonanza series, Rainbow Riches, Fishin’ Frenzy, Bonanza Megaways, Sweet Bonanza, Book of Dead and the rest of the Rich Wilde series, plus there’s a bunch of contemporary slots inspired by TV shows etc – like Breaking Bad slot.
Spin Genie are quite hot off the mark when it comes to publishing new games, while also updating popular franchises with the latest chapters, so if you want somewhere to enjoy both classic titles and new games hot off the press, this is a decent option.
The navigation and game filtering system is just about OK – you can browse for slots by All, Megaways and Jackpot or use the search bar. We’d like to see a bit more categorisation in this department, considering how many titles there are in the library.
Keeping that in mind, for a site whose name and design points very much towards slots (and mobile slots at that – everything comes out just that bit too large on a big screen), it also has a surprisingly good live casino area with friendly dealers in roulette and blackjack games, plus some entertaining game shows from Pragmatic Play, Evolution and Playtech. There’s also a whole section dedicated to Instant Win games and Slingo titles, so all bases are covered really and every player is welcome.
After the welcome offer, there are some decent promotions to look forward to as you continue playing. Daily Picks is a pull to check in regularly, as the offers change every day. They can include special bonuses and seasonal rewards like Free Spins and even cash prizes. At the time of writing (December 2024) there’s also the exclusive “Spin Genie Quest” promotion which enables players to enter a rather special prize draw.
In terms of loyalty rewards, we can’t see a rewards system in place, which is quite unusual for a site of this size. However, experienced players might not view this as an issue – often these rewards systems are determinedly ungenerous.
Spin Genie may have lost its unique feel when it went on to Skill On Net, but remains a very solid site with much to offer. The navigation is great and displays what’s on offer clearly – and in an appealing way – so you can quickly find the type of games you want, as well as discover new products. A solid offering all round.
30 x (deposit + bonus) or 60 x spins winnings, on slots only
Deposit limits, reality check, cool off and self exclusion are the tools available, and self exclusion is from all Skill On Net sites not just Spin Genie. There’s also SafeMate which is an enhanced account stats tracker that gives you a risk score and flags any signs of a possible problem with both player and casino.
