What Is Slot Masters?
Slot Masters is a brand new concept in slot tournaments that has crept quietly on to the promotions pages of some very well known bingo and slot sites over the last year, and really ought to be getting a lot more attention than it is.
Why? Well, for a start it’s completely free to enter. Not only is there no entry fee, the tournament spins themselves are not real money.
Perhaps more importantly, this is not like your usual type of slot tournament, where it’s all a matter of luck. In Slot Masters, you play against two other players and you have access to power-ups which let you slow an opponent down, destroy or part steal their score, or defend against them doing likewise to you. There’s still lots of luck involved as your score comes from the winning combos you spin, but there’s also skill in choosing which power-up to use when in order to maximise your score.
How To Play Slot Masters
Each Slot Masters tournament lasts for a set period of time – usually a day, but we have also seen weekend (Friday – Sunday) and weekly Slot Masters tournaments. In each tournament, you’ll have a set number of battles you can play and this is usually just 2 or 3, occasionally as many as 5. As each battle lasts 2 minutes, this is certainly not a huge time investment. In a battle, the aim is to score as much as possible on the Cash In The Keep multiplayer slot game to get on the tournament leaderboard.
To opt into a battle, press Play on the tournament page. You’ll then be taken to a holding page to wait for two other players to join; once they are in place there’s a 10 second countdown to the start of the battle.
You start each battle with the following power-ups:
- 3 x Freeze – Temporarily freeze the reels of an opponent of your choice
- 1 x Bomb – Wipe out the score of an opponent of your choice
- 2 x Thief – Steal half the score of an opponent of your choice
- 1 x Shield – Temporarily protect yourself from incoming attacks
It’s time to get spinning the reels on this sword and sorcery themed slot game and collecting points for wins! But here’s the tricky bit; you don’t have free choice over when to use your power ups! You have to spin up a War Chest on reel 3, which then opens, giving you a few seconds to choose, aim and use a weapon or apply the shield. Watch out for the War Chests, because if you press the spin button again too quickly you’ll miss the chest opening and be unable to use the power-up.
Ideally, you would never use Freeze or Bomb because you’d want to first let your opponents score as much as possible, then use Thief on both of them followed by Shield on yourself shortly before the timer runs out to win the battle with a nice high score. To do that, though, you’d need to spin three War Chests in quick succession while not being hindered by enemy action which is quite a tall order! It’s fun trying, of course.
At the end of the battle, the player with the highest score is declared the winner and the score goes on the leaderboard. At the end of the tournament, prizes (typically free spins) are given out based on leaderboard position.
Where To Play Slot Masters
Slot Masters tournaments are currently running regularly at Foxy Bingo and Ladbrokes and intermittently at various Gamesys sites, and thousands of players have been participating. We hope to see Slot Masters rolled out by many more operators following the announcement that game provider HungryBear Gaming had signed a distribution deal with Light & Wonder (the new name for SG).
The strategic element in Slot Masters really adds to the entertainment value of playing at the sites that have it – if you like that sort of thing, of course (some players don’t).[UPDATE November 2023 – the Entain sites are no longer running Slot Masters].
