Electric Tiger

Our Slot of the Month for July 2018 is Electric Tiger by IGT. Like many IGT online slots it is based on a physical slot machine from the casino floor.
Electric Tiger has 15 paylines and a fixed bet of 25 coins – allowing spin values of anything from 25p to £250. Somewhat annoyingly, it does not have autoplay enabled in the UK so all spins must be made manually.
The theming is best described as classic fruit machine with added sparkles – and a rainbow neon tiger! The tiger is the wild symbol and expands to fill the reel whenever it lands.
The bonus round comes in two flavours – Wheel Shot Bonus and Wheel Bonus. Both are triggered by the appearance of the Gateway Bonus symbol on reel 3 – a relatively rare occurrence that may not happen for hundreds of spins.
Wheel Shot Bonus takes the player to an array of four wheels, with a bonus wheel stuck on the end.
The bonus round starts with a spin of Wheel 1 (the leftmost wheel) and what happens next depends on where the wheel lands. Each space has a coin award and an arrow; the player collects the coin award and travels in the direction of the arrow. If this results in falling off the left hand end of the array the bonus round ends. If the player lands on another wheel, the wheel is spun. Progressing off the right hand end of the array lands the player on the big money Bonus Wheel. The segments on the Bonus Wheel all contain a coin award and the player lands back on Wheel 4 afterwards.
This “wheel bump” procedure can continue for up to 500 spins with the player shunting back and forth between the wheels collecting more and more coins, as long as the player does not fall off the left hand end of wheel 1.
The minimum win on Wheel Shot is 3x stake (the result of immediately landing on a left arrow space on the first spin of Wheel 1) and as for the maximum, who knows what vast sum a player could amass (up to the maximum payout of £250,000) if they were really lucky and kept going for hundreds of spins?
The much rarer Wheel Bonus awards a single spin of the Bonus Wheel.
If you’re wondering what the Bonus Wheel looks like and why there’s no proper screenshot of it – we’d like to know what it looks like too! Unfortunately it proved remarkably elusive and apart from the glimpse you get as the Wheel Shot bonus round starts (shown above), was not seen in more than two hours of continuous play during which time the Gateway bonus symbol cropped up multiple times. Every single one led to the Wheel Shot Bonus and there were only a couple of occasions out of 20+ plays of the bonus round when Wheel 4 was even reached. From what can be seen in that brief glimpse, it appears that most prizes on the Bonus Wheel are 50 – 100x stake – with a tiny possibility of winning 1000x stake.
Our verdict ? Electric Tiger is a simple, striking and thrilling slot that plays well on all devices, with a bonus round that has the potential to be absolutely insane – but if you like to win little and often, this is totally not the game for you. The tiger makes the base game interesting and can occasionally produce sizeable wins, but with only 15 paylines most spins lose even with tigers. If you aren’t lucky enough to trigger the bonus round early you can expect to lose quite a lot of money quite quickly as that’s where the RTP (92.35% – 96.25%) is mostly tied up.
