Dia Del Maricahi Megaways is our slot of the month for May. As is often the case at BNBS, we’ve already taken a quick look at the game as part of our weekly slot game summaries. We’ve got a bit more room here so we’re going to explore the game further. It also happens to be rather good, so let’s start.
The game’s Mexican Day of the Dead theme isn’t all that new. We’ve seen similar concepts with games like Esqueleto Explosivo, Diablo Reels and Extra Chilli. Nevertheless, DDMM is something of crowd-pleaser in the visuals department with the newt pastel coloured background serving as an attractive but unobtrusive backdrop for game-play. Similar things can be said of the soundtrack too which happily won’t have you searching for the mute button with any urgency. The reels are populated by decent renderings of various objects relating to Old Mexico. Each spin is accompanied by a pleasing clunk and the modifier animations are certainly above-par.
How to Play Dia Del Mariachi Megaways
Premium symbols are represented by a trumpet, violin and guitar. The latter pays out 50x your stake when you land it six times in combination. As is typical of Megaways slots, the game area features the usual six reels with an extra row on top – this is where the wild lands during the base game – it can also appear in any position during the bonus round, replacing other symbols to create winning combinations.
Rolling Reels Feature
Following every win, the matching symbols drop off the reels and are replaced with new ones. Land another winning combo and the process repeats – this continues until wins are no longer possible. This feature is active during the base game and bonus feature.
The top reel is where the wild appears along with four special symbols: piñata, firecracker, rocket and wheel. The piñata awards a cash prize of 2x, 3x, 5x or 10x your stake. The firecracker becomes wild as well as the entire reel below. The rocket also becomes wild and can potentially replace as many as three random symbols with wilds as well. The wheel awards one spin of a bonus wheel which can reward one of four jackpots: mini (15x your stake), minor (50x your stake), major (500x your stake) and mega (10,000 your stake).
Sombrero Spin Feature
To trigger the special symbols’ features, you’ll need to activate the sombrero spin feature. This is signified by a sombrero hat that appears on top of one or more of the extra reel symbols. The position is then highlighted and the feature of any special symbol that lands within it become active.
Free Spins Bonus Round
The free spins bonus round is activated by landing at least four scatters. You’ll receive 10 free spins to start out with as well as two extra spins for every additional triggering scatter. During the round, the sombrero spin feature remains active with all four extra reel positions highlighted.
As far as visuals go, there are certainly more sophisticated games. It might also be said that the Mexican theme has been done a lot better with titles such as Esqueleto Explosivo 2. But thanks to four fixed jackpots and a potential payout of 10,000x your stake, Dia Del Maricahi Megaways, has plenty going for it. Mention should also be made of the 96.42% RTP which is generous in comparison to the miserly RTPs present in many of the latest slots.
