Dragonfish Bingo Gets A Big Upgrade

The Dragonfish bingo software has recently had a major upgrade.  It LOOKS very much the same as it did before but the user interface is massively improved. Here’s what’s changed:

Pre Buy

First, the big news; at last, the Dragonfish software has what it so desperately needed, a proper pre-buy facility.  It replaces the “Express Buy” feature (which let you buy tickets directly from the lobby but only for the next game) and you can access it by pressing the pre-buy button in the lobby or in a bingo room, or by tapping or clicking the icon that looks like a shopping trolley on a bingo room game tile.

The pre-buy pop up defaults to showing you games that take place during the current hour, but you can select games further in the future (up to a week ahead) via the drop-downs on “Date” and “Time”.  You can also select any or all bingo rooms from the “Room” drop-down.

To pre-buy, choose one of the ticket amounts or (if the number of tickets you want isn’t shown) use the plus and minus buttons to select.  You can choose tickets to several different games if you like.  When you’ve made your selection, simply press “Buy Tickets” to proceed (or “Clear” if you aren’t happy and want to start again).

Sites like Rosy Bingo and Glossy Bingo which have a mash-up of Dragonfish and Pragmatic Play bingo rooms also have the new pre-buy facility, but have a non standard lobby without a pre-buy button meaning that you can only access it via the pre-buy button in a bingo room.

Unselect Tickets Button

Another very welcome change to the user interface is the addition of the Unselect Tickets button in the bingo rooms. Here’s how ticket purchase in the network 90 ball bingo room used to look:

The addition of the “Unselect Tickets” button makes a huge difference to how easy it is to buy the number of tickets you want.  The preselected number of tickets in this room is 24 and previously, if you wanted to buy one strip of 6 tickets in this room you had two options:

1. Press the minus button 18 times
2. Unselect 18 tickets. The trouble with this option was that even on the computer screenshot above some of those tickets were offscreen and you had to use the side arrow to bring them into view. It was far worse on the small screen of a phone!

Now, all you need to do is Unselect Tickets and press the plus button 6 times.

This makes even more of a difference in some of their other bingo rooms which have even higher default purchases.

The Unselect Tickets button is also extremely useful when you’ve accidentally pressed one of the buttons for a higher number of tickets you don’t want.

75 Ball Pattern Display

The display of 75-24 bingo cards has been simplified; you will now only see a number in all 24 squares of your bingo cards if it’s a coverall game.  If it’s a pattern game like the “M” game seen in the screenshot of the Mystery Jackpots Room, you only see numbers in the squares that are included in the pattern and the rest are blank.

Without the numbers that aren’t included in the pattern cluttering up the screen, it becomes much easier to see and understand whether your marked numbers bring you closer to winning.

Our Verdict

Better late than never!  In a world where so many of us play bingo on a mobile phone and have busy lives, pre-buy is a must-have.  Dragonfish needed it particularly badly as their bingo bonuses are valid for just 5 days.  The interface is nice and easy to use and is always just a click or tap away.

The other two UX improvements are very welcome too.  Maybe, just maybe, these changes will breathe new life into the Dragonfish bingo product!
