Money Train 3 is our slot of the month for September. The third in the series from Relax Gaming, MT3 is a five reel game with 40 pay-lines. Standout features include sticky symbol re-spins, a bonus round with no less than 13 modifiers and an impressive max pay-out potential of 100,000x your stake.

Theme/Visuals

The original Money Train game was given a radical Steampunk facelift in the 2020 sequel and it went down a storm with players. And this latest offering has also been given a major visual update – this time out the visuals are cold and futuristic

After a decent animated intro featuring a blue-haired girl firing a laser gun, you’ll be presented with the HD game area. It’s set against a metal train which is initially set in a laboratory for the base game. The action moves to a dystopian outdoor area for the money cart bonus round which is complete with futuristic sky scrapers and a purple sky.

The chunky three dimensional reel symbols aren’t exactly masterpieces of visual ingenuity though. That is until you get to the free spins round where you’ll be treated to some pretty impressive animation. And although the classic Western score is somewhat at odds with the sci-fi motif, the presentation is above par overall.

How to Play Money Train 3

Playing card icons represent the low value symbols. Premium symbols are represented by bandits. These are known as Payer, Sniper, Collector and Necromancer. The latter is the most lucrative, paying out when you land him three, four or five times across a pay-line. The reward is 0.8, 4 or 20x your bet. The wild is represented by a gas mask. It replaces all other symbols and can pay as much as 20x your bet.

Bonus Features

If we disregard the buy feature, which is off limits to UK players, MT3 offers two bonus features. The re-spin feature and the money cart bonus feature.

Re-Spin Feature

This can be triggered randomly during the base game for any unsuccessful spin. When activated, one symbol is selected to be sticky for the re-spin. Should any other symbols of the same kind appear during a re-spin, they too become sticky and also award another spin.
1x, 2x and 3x multipliers are also in play potentially. They reward more re-spins and are added together for your final total. The round continues until no more of the chosen sticky symbols appear.

Money Cart Bonus Feature

This is the main feature of MT3 and has the potential to pay out in a big way. It’s activated by landing three or more bonus scatters in any reel position. You’ve also got ‘Persistent’ gold symbols that can also serve as bonus symbols to help you activate the round.

After you’ve triggered the round, all triggering symbols become sticky and reveal a cash value of up to x10 your stake. You’ll then get three re-spins. Filling a reel with sticky symbols opens another column the first two times it occurs.

And on top of the cash value symbols that appear, you’ve got 13 modifiers symbols to choose from.

• Collector – collects all values on the reels, adding them to its own value
• Sniper – double the value of up to 9 symbols, repeating the action numerous times
• Collector-Payer – collects the value of three to five symbols via a crosshair, adding their value to its own value
• Necromancer – activates two to seven non-persistent symbols
• Absorber – absorbs and then removes all multiplier symbols
• Tommy Gun Sniper – doubles the value of a random symbol up to 6 times
• Tommy Gun Payer – adds a value of up to 100x to a random symbol 3 to 10 times
• Persistent Collector – collects all values for every spin that follows
• Persistent Sniper – doubles the value of 3 – 8 symbols for each ensuing spin
• Persistent Collector-Payer – collects the values of up to 5 symbols, adding the total to those symbols for each spin following
• Persistent Necromancer – reactivates up to 7 spend modifiers
• Persistent Shape Shifter – changes to a different modifier with every spin

The round comes to an end after you’ve exhausted your free spins.

Conclusion

Although the facelift isn’t quite as impressive as the Steampunk reboot in MT2, MT3 still ticks plenty of boxes is terms of theme and visuals Well-paced and very rewarding (potentially) the game play is highly entertaining, despite a so-so base game.

Thankfully, the Money Cart round more than compensates, helping to keep MT3 from going off the rails. Indeed, the Money Cart round is where it’s at as far as the big wins are concerned. It’s not every day that you come across a slot game with such as high pay-out potential (100,000x).
