One of the best known and most popular slot games for players at Virtue Fusion bingo sites is Clover Rollover. Now,a whopping 12 years after the release of the original game, Clover Rollover 2 has arrived. It’s currently exclusively at Virtue Fusion/Playtech but we expect it to be rolled out to many more bingo sites in the future, including many which never had the original game.
How To Play Clover Rollover 2
Like its predecessor, Clover Rollover 2 is pretty basic with just 5 paylines (all of which pay both ways). This means that wins are uncommon, but when they do come they are worthwhile even with the low value symbols (making up for the lack of any bonus features or bonus round). Indeed, the simplicity of the original game is one of the reasons for its lasting appeal (the other is, of course, the progressive jackpot).
Although it looks and plays very much like the original but with modern all-singing, all dancing animated graphics, there are a number of important differences under the hood.
For a start, the game is not made by the same slot provider as the original – it’s made by Eyecon, the people behind the perennially popular Fluffy Favourites series of slot games. Eyecon are owned by Playtech and this is why they’ve been allowed to produce a game that is such a faithful looking homage to the original.
Where Clover Rollover 2 differs radically from the original game is in how the jackpots are handled.
In Clover Rollover, the progressive jackpot (at the time of writing more than £1.4 million) is networked across all Virtue Fusion sites (and across several different games also including Cleopatra’s Chest and Snow Queen’s Magic). Your chance of winning it is the same no matter what spin value you play at, but the payout you get if you win is related to your stake. The full jackpot value only pays out if someone wins it with the maximum spin value. Otherwise the player receieves an amount proportional to their stake (at minimum stake, 10p a line, they get just 2% of the full pot) and the rest remains in the pot for next time (that’s why it is able to get so large). In addition, the progressive jackpot is funded by contributions from the operators rather than directly from player stakes which means the Return To Player of 93% is calculated independently from the jackpot.
Clover Rollover 2 is COMPLETELY different as it uses Eyecon’s progressive jackpot system, which is much more in line with other progressive jackpot slots. The three jackpots display and pay out at the same values for all players regardless of spin value, and the chance of winning increases with stake size. The jackpots are not widely networked, but are exclusive to each site or group of sites owned by the same operator. The seed amounts for the jackpots are £2500 for Mega, £50 for Maxi and £10 for Mini but instead of starting the jackpots from these seed value when the game was launched, Eyecon hooked it up to an existing jackpot server including Irish Luck, Jurassic Juniors, Shaman’s Dream and other games. The Maxi and Mini Jackpots pay out and return to seed value quite often so this hasn’t made a lot of difference there. The Mega Jackpot, however, can vary drastically from operator to operator depending on the popularity of the other contributing games and how recently the jackpot was won – and at one site we visited it was in excess of £75,000.
Clover Rollover 2 has a better headline RTP than the original – it’s 93.98% – but it turns out that that is INCLUDING the jackpot contributions. If you exclude the jackpot, the RTP is a rather underwhelming 90.984%. It can be played with spin values of 50p to £50.
