Gordon Ramsay Hell’s Kitchen is our March slot of the month. Since its highly-anticipated release on March 25, the game has been proving a big hit with players and is enjoying significant exposure at loads of UK slot sites and casinos. Like most big-budget Netent online slots, GRHK is polished and replete with numerous bonus features. Let’s take a closer look.
Theme/Visuals
Although Netent opted to use cartoon renderings instead of actual video captures, the finished effect is decent enough if not quite as accomplished as other branded online slot games from the Swedish developers. A flaming intro featuring a brooding Ramsay gives way to a fairly basic game area with play accompanied by an orchestral soundtrack as well as random comments from the irascible chef himself.
How to Play Gordon Ramsay Hell’s Kitchen
The base game is fairly conventional requiring you to land three, four or five symbols from left to right across one of twenty pay-lines. Low-to-medium symbols are represented by playing card lettering with LED effects, while Ramsay’s signature dishes make up the medium to high symbols. These include a pudding, a cocktail, spicy burger and beef wellington of which the latter is the most valuable.
The wild symbol is signified by the game logo and can appear anywhere – it substitutes for all others apart from the Gordon Ramsay scatter symbol which appears on reels one, two, four and five.
Bonus Features
Play is spiced by a pleasing blend of bonus features such as Ramsay’s Wilds, the Team Challenge Bonus Round and Gordon’s Bonus Game.
Ramsay’s Wilds
For Ramsay’s Wilds, five to seven wilds can land in any position during base game spins. While not exactly ground-breaking, the feature is brought to life by an excellent animation that sees Ramsay throw plates or knives at the reels. The chance of landing winning combinations is also boosted significantly.
Team Challenge Bonus Round
The Team Challenge Bonus Round is perhaps GRHK’s standout feature. It’s activated by unveiling three or four scatter symbols in any reel position and you’ll be awarded either 10 or 15 free spins. The game area then splits into two 5 x3 reel sets – you’ll then be required to choose a blue or red team and a cooking competition ensues.
During each spin, colour-coded ‘Order Up’ Features appear underneath the reels. These come in the form of 2x and 3x multipliers that can multiply all bet line wins for the corresponding team. If activated during the same spin they get added together. A team wilds feature is also in play in which up to 8 wild symbols can land on the reels thus boosting your chances of landing winning combinations. Once the team challenge round is complete, the team with the largest total wins.
Gordon’s Bonus Game
Gordon’s Bonus Game is unlocked if your chosen team wins in the Team Challenge or if the round ends in a tie. It’s a Pick ‘Em style game featuring fifteen menus behind which are cash prizes and various multipliers. The round continues until you unveil three X symbols.
Conclusion
The main attraction here is the Team Challenge feature which offers an engaging diversion from a run-of-the-mill base game. It can pay out as much as 200x your stake although this can theoretically rise to 1000x by landing multiplier combinations by way of the Order Up feature.
Visually the game is solid, if not spectacular, helped in a big way by some nicely choreographed reel animations. The slot RTP isn’t massively high though, sitting just above the industry average. Thus, any big pay-outs are likely going to come by way of the bonus features.
RTP: 96.07%, Minimum Stake: 0.20
