Centurion Megaways

Updated: 4th Dec 2024
As mentioned in our new slot games category, we’ve decided that Centurion Megaways (CM) is to be our slot of the month for July. It’s an update of the original Maximus Winnus title featuring Big Time Gaming’s hugely popular engine and a raft of additional in-game elements, including five random modifiers and a bonus wheel side game. Before we get into all of this, let’s take a look at the theme and audio.
Theme/Visuals
The game is of course based on Ancient Rome and is fronted up by a well-drawn cartoon centurion who announces special bonuses with a blow of his tuba. Visually-speaking, it’s pretty clear from the off that CM hasn’t been redesigned from the ground up.
Although the reel symbols have been given a make-over, they bear a very close resemblance to the original. The interface is slightly different though, with a villa now forming part of the background.
Other than that, there’s not much to separate CM from its popular predecessor. Like the first version, there are no elaborate animations to speak of (apart from the centurion). ‘Functional’ is probably the work we’d use to describe the game’s theme.
This could also be applied to the game’s soundtrack which consists of a Roman fanfare that accompanies each spin. Although quite amusing to begin with, after a few minutes you’ll be frantically searching for the mute button (it’s in the settings panel). So there’s nothing that particularly stands out in the theme/audio department. Just as well then, that the game includes so many features.
How to Play Age of Conquest
The action takes place on a standard 6-reel Megaways reel configuration with the usual four row panel located above. As ever, you’ll need to match symbols on adjacent reels from left to right in order to win. Once you’ve landed a winning combination, new symbols fall into place and have the potential to generate more wins. They’ll continue to fall until it’s no longer possible to form wins.
The additional reel adds extra symbols to reels two, three, four and five. As well as A to J card images these include a coin, a soldier’s helmet, a sword and shield, an amphitheatre and chariot.
The latter is the most lucrative and can pay out 7.5 your stake should six appear in combination. There are also two free spin symbols (Caesar’s Free Spins, Super Caesar’s Free Spins) which appear on the extra reel during the base game.
The Random Modifiers
If the centurion appears during a spin, he’ll award you with one of five modifiers: Big Win, Minimum Ways, Maximum Ways, Mystery Symbol and the Super Bonus Reels.
Big Win Modifier
The Big Win ensures that you’ll create a winning combo that pays out at least twenty times your stake.
Minimum and Maximum Modifiers
The Minimum Ways activates a pre-specified number of Megaways on the next spin while the Maximum Ways allows you to play with fully expanded reels on the very next spin.
Mystery Symbols Modifier
For the Mystery Symbols modifier, the centurion will deliver mystery symbols onto the reels that randomly change into one of the ten standard icons. You’re pay-out will then be calculated accordingly.
Super Bonus Reels Modifier
Here, the centurion will deliver additional bonus symbols onto the reels, thus increasing your chances of unlocking the bonus wheel.
Bonus Wheel
In order to access the bonus wheel, you’ll need to land at least three scatters on the same spin during the base game.
Bonus Wheel Bonuses
The more scatters that you manage to land, the more bonus features will appear on the wheel. These are as follows.
Prizes on Parade Bonuses
For this bonus, you’ll need to press ‘stop’ to gather cash prizes ranging from 10 to 43 x your stake. From here, it’s also possible to progress to a free spin round. For the Super Prizes on Parade the same principle applies but with improved multipliers and a better chance of advancing to one of the free spins rounds.
Caesar’ Free Spins Features
Here, you’ll be able to spin the wheel in order to win as many as 16 free spins as well as multipliers of up to x5. During this feature, each Cascade will increase your multiplier by one with winning combos again multiplied by the current multiplier…so to speak.
Wild Power Spins Features
In this bonus round you can win up to 4 spins, while reels 2, 3, 4 and 5 become sticky. The Super Spins game is the most lucrative and can generate multipliers of x6.
Conclusion
There’s not getting away from the fact the Centurion Megaways is very similar to the first game. But that’s usually the case with slots that receive the Big Time Gaming update. If you can get past the fairly basic visuals, there’s plenty here to keep you entertained, specifically the modifiers of the base game as well as the bonus wheel. A potential pay-out of 12,500 your stake isn’t to be sniffed at either.
