What is MuchBetter?

MuchBetter is basically an ultramodern version of an e-wallet and was developed with online gambling sites in mind.  It differs from other e-wallets such as Paypal in that you MUST have a smartphone in order to be able to use it, because all wallet management is done on the MuchBetter app (available in the App Store and Play Store).  MuchBetter is owned by MIR Limited UK Ltd (which is regulated by the FCA) and MIR Lithuania (whihc is regulated by the Bank of Lithuania).

MuchBetter has been widely adopted internationally as well as in the UK and if you visit the MuchBetter YouTube channel you’ll find videos in many different languages extolling its virtues and demonstrating how to deposit and withdraw.

MuchBetter also comes with a free prepaid Mastercard which can be integrated with Google Pay, plus a key fob for making contactless payments, plus other contactless payment methods so ridiculous that at first glance one might think they were April fools (a shirt cuff and a soft drinks bottle).  Unfortunately all these extra goodies are for customers in the EEA (European Economic Area) only and thanks to Brexit that no longer includes the UK.

How to Get Started with MuchBetter

  • By far the easiest way to get started with MuchBetter is with this registration form.
  • Start by filling in your mobile phone number with the correct country code (UK is pre-selected to make it super easy).
  • Next you need to choose and enter a 4 digit passcode and choose the currency for your MuchBetter wallet (this can’t be changed later on so do resist the urge to pick a wild and wacky currency).
  • Now fill in the rest of your personal information, ensuring that the first and last names you enter are the same as on your official ID (e.g. if your name on your passport is William but you’re usually called Bill, you should enter William here).
  • Once you’ve entered all of this information, you’ll need to tick the box on the sign-up screen to confirm that you’ve read the privacy policy and terms of use (there are three different version of this and you want the one for “UK and Rest of World”, then press the button to “Get a MuchBetter Account”.
  • You’ll be sent a verification code by SMS which you’ll need to enter to verify your account.
  • Finally, visit the App Store or Google Play store to download the Apple or Android version of the MuchBetter app to your phone.
  • The final pieces of information you will need to give them are to tell them what you mainly intend to use your account for (gaming transactions is one of the options) and let them know your occupation (this is just a choice from a list of industries and there is no need to be at all specific).
  • You can now enable biometric authentication in the app (i.e. fingerprint or facial recognition for login) or decide to stick with the passcode.

This completes the sign-up process but in order to withdraw money or send/request money (which you need to be able to do in order to deposit at online casinos) you will need to undergo further verification of your account.  This is done via the extremely high tech Jumio ID verification service which walks you through the process of uploading a photo of your government issued ID and a selfie, including taking the photos for you, and finishes verification within minutes (you’ll hear about this via app notification).

How to Fund Your MuchBetter Account

To fund your new MuchBetter account, press the little orange icon with a picture of a banknote and two arrows on it and select Top Up.  Choose how much you would like to add to your account.  You’ll then be shown a list (which varies from country to country) of available top up methods plus any associated fees and can proceed from there.  Although one of the methods available in the UK is crypto, this does not mean that MuchBetter holds funds or supports payments in cryptocurrency; instead, they give you an address to send your crypto to where a third party processor converts it into fiat and pays it into your MuchBetter wallet (there’s a fee for this).

MuchBetter accounts have two separate balances, gaming and non-gaming, and when you deposit with a card you MUST choose at the point of top-up which it is (note that in the UK, only debit card deposits, not credit card deposits, can be added to a gaming balance).

How to Deposit Using MuchBetter

Funding your account at an online casino, slot or bingo site that accepts MuchBetter deposits is super easy:

Safety and Security with MuchBetter

MuchBetter offers login via fingerprint or facial recognition so you don’t have to remember a password or passcode and it’s not possible to leave the app logged into by accident as it times out after 90 seconds of inactivity or when screen lock comes on.  2FA with a code sent to your phone number is required when using a new device.

MuchBetter and Casino Bonuses

Most casinos now exclude Skrill and Neteller deposits from their welcome offers and some have extended that to exclude all e-wallets or even restrict the welcome offer to debit cards only. Future of MuchBetter

As MuchBetter is fully licensed by the FCA rather than having deemed authorisation and regulation under the Temporary Permissions Regime (as Trustly initially was), we can surmise that it is very much here to stay as far as UK players are concerned.  It’s clearly streets ahead of other e-wallets and although it requires the user to have access to up-to-date technology, as we go into 2024 around 90% of adults in the UK have a smartphone.  Maybe PayPal should be worried?
