The Grace Media platform has its roots way back in 2011 as Nektan Limited, an organisation that sought to take advantage of the then nascent mobile casino market by developing a mobile-first casino plaform based around its own proprietary games. They soon came to understand that players prefer a wider range of slot games and so was born the Nektan casino platform.  After some financial and regulatory issues, Nektan was sold to Grace Media in 2020 and the underlying technology rebranded to Markor Technology.   A new lobby design was introduced in 2021 and it’s still in use at Grace Media sites today.

Many of the Grace Media casinos that you will see advertised in 2024 have been around for years and are jumping on the bandwagon of the platform’s current surge in popularity.  Onyx Slots, on the other hand, is genuinely new; it opened in April 2024.

Getting Started At Onyx Slots

To open an account at Onyx Slots, there’s three screens to fill in.  On the first, you fill in your name, date of birth and email address and choose a password.  On the second screen, you fill in your address. And on the third, you fill in your mobile number, opt into the communicatons channels you prefer (email or SMS) and accept the site’s terms and conditions.

That’s all there is to it – you’re now ready to deposit and play.

Slot Games At Onyx Slots

The slots part of the lobby at Onyx Slots has tabs for Hot Slots, New, Featured, Megaways, Drops & Wins (for the games included in the long running Pragmatic Play network promotion), Welcome Slots (for the games that you can play with a welcome bonus offer that Onyx Slots doesn’t have) and an occasionally changed tab for sseasonal specials (Luck of the Irish when we visited).  This is quite a lot of tabs but to be honest they are not that helpful; for example, it’s not at all clear what the difference between Hot Slots and Featured is.  If nothing in any of the lobby tabs catches your eye you can either browse through the All Games tab where everything is shown in alphabetical order, or use the search box, which spits out results when you enter just one character and includes a game provider filter.

Altogether there are more than 700 games to choose from, with around 50 different studios represented; this does mean that for many of the providers there’s just a few cherry picked games.  Nevertheless, there’s a dozen Big Bass games, nine Rainbow Riches games and several of the sequels to Book of Dead, showing that they knowwhat players like.  Apart from progressive jackpots, that is – there’s none of those (no Grace Media sites have any).

Slot Return To Player is not shown in the lobby and you will need to look in the game help files to find out what it is.

Other Games

Onyx Slots only has a small selection of games that aren’t slot games:

• The Instant Win part of the lobby has a few Lucky Tap and scratchcard games and a couple of crash games.
• The Table Games area has a few versions of blackjack and some regular and novelty roulette games (Space Invaders Roulette, anyone?)
• The Live Casino area has a few roulette and card games (Teen Patti, Dragon Tiger) and one solitary game show, Pragmatic Play’s Boom City.

Other Considerations

Onyx Slots has the standard Grace Media lobby design which is the same for all of their sites internationally, and unfortunately that means that some areas in the lobby are not particularly useful.  We’ve already mentioned the Welcome Slots tab, and there’s also the Rewards part of the site.  This is where the loyalty scheme would be advertised if there was one, but there isn’t (not for UK players anyway), so it’s just a vague sort of advert for the site in general.  The FAQ also contains areas that are not useful to Onyx Slots players – there are sections about non UK payments (which are obviously inapplicable) and about bingo (which Onyx Slots doesn’t offer).  While all of this is just a minor annoyance, it would be nice to see a bit of customisation to remove the things that aren’t needed.

The standard lobby does work very well on mobile devices, which is what you’d expect given the platform’s mobile first history.

Deposits can be made by any of 4 different methods and there are no fees for using any of them; you will, however, have to pay a fee if you want to withdraw less than £30 which is something to bear in mind.

Final Thoughts

If you don’t mind the absence of progressive jackpots and relatively poor selection of casino games, and prefer the no wagering style of welcome offer, Onyx Slots could be a good choice, especially as the offer can be claimed not once, not twice, but five times!
