Playtech is the largest provider of casino software and online slots in the world. You can play some of its most popular games here.
Age of the Gods is a five reel slot from Playtech – the first in an endless lineage of games from said developer that clutters casino lobbies the world over. In fairness, it’s easy to see why the series has become one of Playtech’s major cash-cows – AOTG is a highly-playable game with an excellent free spins feature and four progressive jackpots.
Visually, the game looks better than quite a few of its successors. Set against some sort of Ancient Greek background, the gilded edge reels are decorated with the usual assortment of characters and miscellanea from the days of antiquity.
Keep your eye out for Athena – she’s the most lucrative standard symbol and will reward you with 50 times your stake provided that she appears five times. Unveil a wild five times and you’ll receive 500 times your stake.
The base game also includes the Pantheon of Power feature – should the gods Athena, Hercules, Poseidon, Zeus and Aphrodite appear across a pay-line in any order you’ll receive a cash prize worth 10 times your stake.
There are four free spin features in AOTG which can be activated by unveiling three or more scatter symbols. You will then be presented with a game area consisting of 20 coins depicting the various Gods. Pick and match three of these and you’ll play a free spins feature relating to your chosen deity. It’s possible to win up to 10,000 x your stake in each.
The usual 4 x 5 grid is in place for the progressive jackpot feature. As ever, there are twenty squares hiding various jackpot amounts. If you match three of these, you’ll be rewarded with the jackpot.
RTP: 95.02%, Minimum Stake: 0.20
Playtech continue the rapid release of new games in the Kingdoms Rise series of progressive jackpot slots with the 9th game, Kingdoms Rise: Shadow Queen. The first in the series to be created by Playtech subsidary Ash Gaming, it is a 25 line slot with a theme of dark sorcery.
Although wins in the base game are relatively frequent as some of the symbols pay out on just two of a kind, you’ll need four of a kind or more on a payline to win anything at all worthwhile; this is made slightly easier by the wild symbol – the Shadow Queen herself – which is a 3-high stack.
The real excitement in Shadow Queen lies in the bonus round, which unusually can be better in the base game than in any of the options in the Kingdoms Rise shop. At the start of the bonus round, spin the wheel to find out how many Magic Wins will be awarded – 3 is most usual but it can be just one or, if you’re really lucky, 10. The free spins then start. Each spin increases the multiplier by 1 but only decreases the count of Magic Wins if it is a winning spin, so ideally you want to start the round off with several losing spins to get the multiplier up for the winning spins. The results from Magic Wins can be extremely variable – most will be pretty underwhelming but there’s the potential for very big wins.
Kingdoms Rise: Shadow Queen has RTP of 96.37% – 96.49% (including the jackpot contribution and shop tokens) and can be played from 10p a spin.

Age of the Gods Ruler of the Dead is an addition, for Winter 2020, to Playtech’s classic Age of the Gods series of slot games and is based on Orpheus’ journey to the Underworld from Greek mythology.
The base game is very much in the vein of the first batch of games in the series (which were actually reskins of Marvel superhero slots after Playtech lost the rights to use characters from the MCU) in that it’s a 25 line slot on a classic 5×3 reel set. The main feature is the wild symbols of Cerberus and Charon, both of which are three symbols high and appear on the middle reels only. Land a the full height of a Cerberus on the reels to apply a multiplier of up to 5 to any winning lines it appears in, and land the full height of a Charon to trigger the coin collector bonus game (with a multiplier if more than one stacked wild lands on the same spin).
Age of the Gods Ruler of the Dead can be played from just 5p a spin and has RTP of 96.53% (including the 0.99% contribution to the progressive jackpots).

Age of the Gods Norse: Book of Dwarves has the same jackpot arrangements as previous games in Playtech’s AOTG Norse series. The top jackpot is pooled with the other Age of the Gods games and instead of the three smaller jackpots of the original series, Book of Dwarves has a daily jackpot and a must-drop jackpot similar to those seen in the Kingdoms Rise series.
Played on a 5 x 5 array, Book of Dwarves has 50 paylines and one of those bonus rounds that has the potential to be absolutely insane as it progresses through up to 4 levels adding an extra expanding symbol each time. Get all the way to level 4 and you’ll have 3 spins which could each easily cover the whole play area with wild symbols!
Age of the Gods Norse: Book of Dwarves has RTP of 95.99% including the jackpot contribution, and can be played from 10p a spin which is pretty unusual for a 50 line slot.

Halloween Fortune is a five reel game released in 2012 that features a relatively generous RTP of 97.06%. Although Playtech game to their senses and lowered this to a horrifying 94.99% for the 2016 sequel (avoid!!), this first installment is still widely available.
The game’s cartoon visuals still look fine by today’s standards, even if we’re fast approaching a decade since its launch.
The game area comprises transparent reels that are set against a haunted garden. They’re decorated with symbols that include a black cat, a skull, potion bottle and two scantily-clad witches.
Of the standard symbols, the witch in green pays out the most (1000x your stake when five appear). The game logo scatter pays out 50x and appears on the middle three reels. The jack-o-lantern is the most lucrative though, rewarding 10000 times your stake if five land in combination.
If the cauldron bonus symbol appears simultaneously on reels one and five, the game’s pick-and-win side game is activated. Here, you’ll get the chance to pick one out three witches to win up to 20 free spins. Then you’ll need to choose one of six potions for the chance to receive multipliers of x2, x3, x4, x5, x6 or x10
Ok so there aren’t many bonus features – just one in fact. But with a max-win potential of £50,000 for a single spin and a generous RTP of 97.06%, Halloween Fortune has still got quite a bit going for it.
RTP: 97.06%, Minimum Stake: 0.10
Gaelic Luck is a five reel slot from Playtech with a high RTP of 97.06%. Despite a simplistic base game, it’s possible to land some big multipliers as well as unlimited free spins via a standout free games bonus round.
Gaelic Luck is of course themed around Ireland and is fronted by a simpering trio of female cartoon characters called the Lucky Lasses.
The 5 x 3 reel set is set against a green four-leaf clover background with play accompanied by the kind of score you’d expect from a game inspired by the emerald isle.
The three main characters serve as medium to high symbols – the one with the red hair is the most valuable paying out as much as 50x your stake when she appears five times on a pay-line.
The standard wild, which substitutes all other symbols, is represented by a pot of gold and rewards up to 500x your stake. The scatter is less lucrative but still pays out 50x your stake when you land five in a winning combination.
To gain access to the free games round, you’ll need to land the four-leaf clover horseshoe symbol on reels one and five. You then choose one of the lucky lasses to receive between 3 and 20 free spins. You’ll also get to pick from six clover symbols to determine your multiplier – this can be as much as x10.
RTP: 97.06%, Minimum Stake: 0.01

Kingdoms Rise: Legion Uprising by Origins for Playtech is yet another addition to the series of fantasy themed progressive jackpots. It is a fairly straightforward 25 line slot with a free spins bonus round, during which there’s an incremental multiplier and a sticky wild in the middle of reel 3 to increase winning potential. The additional bonus rounds that can be purchased from the Kingdoms Rise Shop using collected tokens are similar, but some have a walking wild instead of a sticky wild and they all ring the changes on how the incremental multiplier works.
Compared to the last few games in the series, Kingdoms Rise: Legion Uprising is a little bit of a let down. The bonus features are OK but the base game is a bit dull and the RTP isn’t great. We can see people just visiting this one for the shop bonus features.
Legion Uprising has RTP of 92.03% (96.02% including the shop tokens and progressive jackpot contribution) and can be played from 10p a spin.

Age of Egypt is a five reel slot with an RTP of 97.05%. Released in early 2018, it includes a pick-an-win game and a special free spins game that includes 3x multipliers.
Unlike many slots based on Egypt, AOE features quite a simplistic design. The action takes place against a fairly basic pyramid backdrop, while the reels are decorated with playing card lettering.
More in keeping with the overall theme are the medium-to-high value symbols including a scarab beetle and the Eye of Horus. A sphinx serves as the wild and substitutes all other symbols save for the Pharaoh Queen scatter and bonus icon. It can pay out up to 500 times your stake, provided you uncover five across the reels.
The bonus is represented by an Anubis symbol, three of which triggers the pick-and-win game. You’ll then be granted three, four or five chances to choose various artefacts to reveal cash prizes.
The Pharaoh Queen unlocks the Royal Treasury free games round and 10 spins will be awarded. The bonus symbol remains active during the round which means you can gain access to the pick-and-win game. If the queen appears three times, another 10 free spins will be credited.
RTP: 97.05%, Minimum Stake: 0.01

Wheels N Reels is a five reel slot from Playtech with a max pay-out of 100,000 times your stake and a special bonus feature in which it’s possible to win unlimited free spins. Sporting a pleasant cartoonish race-car theme, Wheels N Reels’s comprises a fairly run-of-the-mill base game.
Medium to high value symbols are represented by a helmet, and three racing cars, of which the red one is the most lucrative – when five appear across a pay-line you’ll be rewarded with 50x your stake.
A chequered flag serves as the wild symbol, replacing all others apart from the scatter and bonus, and paying out 500x times your stake, provided of course that you manage to land give across a pay-line.
But it’s the Pit Stop Bonus round that’s the standout feature here. It’s unlocked by landing five symbols anywhere across the reels. You’ll be given the opportunity to select tyres to win free spins and then multipliers. The feature is re-triggered if the bonus symbol appears on reels one and five during the round.
RTP: 97.06%, Minimum Stake: 0.01

Buffalo Blitz is a six reel slot from Playtech with 4096 pay-lines and a potentially generous free games feature that awards up to 100 spins. The game was released in 2016 and became popular among players – so much so in fact that a sequel was released four years later.
The game area is set against a grassy wilderness with the reel symbols populated by basic renderings of a moose, a racoon, grizzly bear and buffalo. Play is accompanied by a rather oppressive orchestral score that is perhapsan ode to the hairy ungulates that once roamed the American high plains. Those looking for conscience-free gambling may therefore want to hit the mute button.
The buffalo is the highest paying symbol, rewarding 7.5 your stake if you manage to land it five times across a pay-line. A diamond (?) represents the game’s standard wild and appears on all reels apart from the first one.
There’s only one special feature but it’s a good ‘un. Land at least three scatters and you’ll gain access to the Free Games feature and be rewarded with 8 spins. This increases according to the number of triggering scatters. You’ll be awarded 15 for unveiling 4 scatters, 25 for landing 5 and 100 for activating the feature with six scatters.
During the round, the diamond wild remains in play and also comes with random multipliers of up to 5x. The scatter can also appear, retriggering spins if you manage to land at least two.
RTP: 95.96%, Minimum Stake: 0.20
Playtech’s story is one of relentless expansion. The company was founded in 1999 by entrepreneur, Teddy Sagi whose goal was to develop cutting-edge casino software. To this end, Sagi built a talented team of specialists from the casino, software and multimedia industries.
Later that year, the Playtech unveiled a small collection of slots including Pet Luck, the Incredible Hulk, the Avengers and Dynamite Digger. But its main priority remained the development of software.
In 2001, the company launched its first casino platform, Club Dice, and was soon attracting the interest of countless top casino slot sites. After expanding its product portfolio to include online bingo games as well as poker, Playtech eventually redoubled its efforts in the development of video slots.
By 2006, the company had started to unveil more sophisticated games with better RTPs and improved mechanics. These included the likes of Ugga Bugga and Forest of Wonders. More branded slot games also followed such as Gladiator, Iron Man and Rock.
Production levels increased dramatically during this period and have remained high ever since. Today, Playtech operates nine development studios: Origins, Psiclone Games, Sunfox Games, Ash Gaming, Vikings, GECO Gaming, Eyecon, Quickspin and Rarestone.
Some of its most popular games in the past decade include Age of the Gods, Buffalo Blitz and the Kingdoms Rise games. And although blockbuster releases like these aren’t quite as frequent as they once more, Playtech remains a prolific producer of slots, boasting one of the largest portfolios in all of iGaming (560+).
And it continues to introduce new innovations. The Playtech Live Slots concept is one of the best examples. Launched in late 2019, this real-time platform turns slot play into a collaborative experience.
A specific slot is played by an unlimited number of participants by way of ‘community spins’. The action, overseen by a host/commentator, takes place on a big screen with live chat encouraged between players. Buffalo Blitz Live was the first game to be introduced – this has since been joined by Age of the Gods: God of Storms.
Playtech’s sizable collection of video slots is made up of the following game variants:
Given that Playtech is mainly a video slots specialist, its game collection doesn’t feature too many classic slots. There are currently eight including Party Line, Crazy 7 and Triple Fortune. Most of these are three reel games, launched between 2006 and 2011.
Classic Slots from Playtech – 8 Ball Slots, Crazy 7, Party Line, Triple Fortune, Ugga Bugga
As with major brands like Barcrest, Blueprint and NetEnt, Playtech is able to use its considerable financial clout to deliver high-end titles. Most slots feature polished, well-choreographed reel animations and highly-engaging bonus rounds.
Admittedly, this big-budget philosophy is a bit more evident with its branded slots and progressive jackpot games (see below). But the Playtech library does include a decent collection of standard video slots as well.
Popular Playtech Video Slots – Anaconda Wild II, Buffalo Blitz, Gaelic Luck, Halloween Fortune, Leprechauns Luck
Kingdoms Rise and Age of the Gods slots seem to be Playtech’s main focus these days. The AOG series comprises 22 different games, most of which include four different jackpots games linked across Playtech’s network.
For the Kingdoms Rise franchise, there are eleven games with three linked jackpots. These jackpot slots also provide players with access to a special shop in which they can buy access to exclusive bonus rounds and other features by collecting tokens during play. For both of the above series, the potential prizes aren’t quite as lucrative as the big progressive games from Microgaming and Netent. But it’s still possible to win six figure sums.
The games also illustrate Playtech’s growing tendency to create slots based on ancient civilizations – Ancient Greece and Rome are by far the most popular epochs although although a few Viking themed slots have also been released in recent years.
In keeping with this approach, Playtech and Rarestone Gaming launched the Fire Blaze Jackpot series in 2019. The suite consists of nine slots featuring a special ‘hold and re-spin’ option. This gives players the chance to win one of four progressive jackpots.
Popular Playtech Jackpot Slots – Age of the Gods Glorious Griffin, Age of the Gods Ruler of the Seas, Jackpot Giant, Kingdoms Rise Battle Beast, Jinns Moon Fire Blaze Jackpot,
Playtech’s range of branded slots is considerable. Following a parting of the ways with Marvel, the developer managed to secure a massive deal with Warner Brothers in 2017. This led to the release of standout slots such as Batman Begins, Man of Steel, Suicide Squad, Superman the Movie and the Green Lantern.
Playtech has also unveiled slots inspired by blockbuster movies such as the Matrix, Robocop and Gladiator. These high-profile titles are joined by games from the Sports Legends series fronted up by famous sporting figures such as Frankie Dettori, AP McCoy and Ronnie O’Sullivan.
Popular Playtech Branded Slots – AP McCoy Sporting Legends, Batman Begins, Frankie Dettori’s Magic Seven Jackpot, Green Lantern, Suicide Squad
According to most reliable sources, the average RTP of Playtech slots stands at a little over 95%, which is within the average industry range. Slots with the best RTPs include Age of Egypt (97.05%), Gaelic Luck (97.06%) and Wheels and Reels (97.06%).
