Play Halloween Fortune at Betfred Casino
Stake £10, Get Up To 200 Free SpinsHalloween Fortune is a five reel game released in 2012 that features a relatively generous RTP of 97.06%. Although Playtech game to their senses and lowered this to a horrifying 94.99% for the 2016 sequel (avoid!!), this first installment is still widely available.
The game’s cartoon visuals still look fine by today’s standards, even if we’re fast approaching a decade since its launch.
The game area comprises transparent reels that are set against a haunted garden. They’re decorated with symbols that include a black cat, a skull, potion bottle and two scantily-clad witches.
Of the standard symbols, the witch in green pays out the most (1000x your stake when five appear). The game logo scatter pays out 50x and appears on the middle three reels. The jack-o-lantern is the most lucrative though, rewarding 10000 times your stake if five land in combination.
If the cauldron bonus symbol appears simultaneously on reels one and five, the game’s pick-and-win side game is activated. Here, you’ll get the chance to pick one out three witches to win up to 20 free spins. Then you’ll need to choose one of six potions for the chance to receive multipliers of x2, x3, x4, x5, x6 or x10
Ok so there aren’t many bonus features – just one in fact. But with a max-win potential of £50,000 for a single spin and a generous RTP of 97.06%, Halloween Fortune has still got quite a bit going for it.

Play Mighty Tusk at Mecca Bingo
Play £10, Win Up To £120 BonusMighty Tusk is a five reel slot from Blueprint that was released in 2016. As well as a free spins bonus feature the game includes three separate jackpot prizes.
Inspired by the Jungle Book, Mighty Tusk is replete with cutesy cartoon imagery of various jungle inhabitants such as snakes, tigers, monkeys and panthers. Visually, the game still looks OK by today’s standards although don’t expect any over-elaborate reel animations.
Joining the standard symbols is an elephant which represents a standard wild. As well as substituting all others (apart from the scatter) it can award 5, 100 or 1000x your stake depending on whether it appears three, four or five times across a pay-line.
Manage to land the bonus scatter three, four or five times and you’ll trigger the Mighty Tusk Free Spins feature -you’ll also be rewarded with fifteen, twenty or fifty free spins respectively. The game area then switches to a four reel set configuration with a single reel remaining active. The goal is to activate the other reel sets by collecting peanut symbols.
12 peanuts activate reel set 2, 18 peanuts activate reel set 3 and 24 peanuts activate reel set four. For each reel set, expanding wilds come into play and you’ll also receive 5 free spins for each reel set that you manage to activate.
Blueprint’s flagship Jackpot King feature is also active and can be accessed by unveiling five Jackpot King symbols. You’ll then have the chance to collect crowns for cash prizes and enter the Wheel King bonus round for the chance to bag a progressive jackpot.
RTP: 97%, Minimum Stake: 0.20

Play Big Bad Wolf Christmas Special at Videoslots
11 Wager Free Spins & Deposit £10+, Get 100% bonus up to £200Big Bad Wolf Christmas Special is a five reel slot with 25 pay-lines that features an excellent 97.34% RTP. In contrast to many of the other games listed in this category, BBWCS is new having been launched in time for Christmas. Indeed, there’s nothing quite like a fairy tale about three pigs and a predator to inspire festive cheer.
BBWCS is basically a re-spin of the award-winning original from Quickspin. All the symbols have been retained albeit with a coating of snow, while the background is now a winter landscape. Joining the wood-finish playing card symbols (sigh) are a teddy bear and a trio of domesticated ungulates.
The wild is represented by a beehive and pays out 40 times you stake when five appear across a pay-line. There are four bonus features: swooping reels, pigs turn wild, free spins and blowing down the house.
The swooping reels feature is an Avalanche-style mechanic that’s activated after all wins. The symbols are blown away to be replaced with new ones, with the process repeated until wins are no longer possible.
Pigs Turn Wild is triggered after successive wins and one of the three pigs turns wild. If you manage six wins in a row, they’ll all turn wild.
The free spins round is unlocked by landing at least three wolf scatters – a 3x multiplier will then be awarded together with 10 free spins. Should another three scatters appear during a free spin it will re-trigger and you’ll get another 10 spins..
Blowing Down the House comes into play if you manage to unveil a minimum of three moon symbols on the fifth reel. The wooden house is blown down and you’ll be the recipient of two spins. Unveil six and the brick house is blown down, 2 spins awarded as well as a 2x multiplier.
RTP: 97.34%, Minimum Stake: 0.25

Play Secrets of Atlantis at Unibet Bingo
Deposit £10+, Get £20 Bingo BonusSecrets of Atlantis is a standard five reel slot game from NetEnt that’s inspired by Plato and his lost undersea city. Standout elements include win-both-ways functionality, a highlight re-spin feature and nudge wilds.
Set in a well-drawn underwater world, Secrets of Atlantis still looks decent enough, even by today’s standards. There are no reels to speak of – instead the actual symbols are arranged into a 5 x 3 lay-out and include an assortment of sea creatures including turtles, crabs, a jellyfish and a mermaid who serves as the game’s standard wild.
As mentioned, wins are possible both ways – this is enhanced by a highlight feature in which symbols on the middle three reels are randomly highlighted. If all become illuminated, a re-spin is activated with the three reels morphing into a single reel and expanding to feature 3 x 4 ‘Colossal’ symbols – these colossal symbols can also include the mermaid wild.
Should the middle reels become highlighted during the re-spins, another spin will be awarded. However, the mermaid appears fully or partially – if the latter occurs, the Nudge Wild feature will move her up or down, increasing your chances of forming winning combinations.
Although not the most renowned Netent online slot game, Secrets of Atlantis does include a relatively high RTP – definitely worth a try if you’re looking to play through wagering requirements.

Play Gaelic Luck at PokerStars Casino
Deposit £10+, Get 200% Slot Bonus (up to £300) + 100 SpinsGaelic Luck is a five reel slot from Playtech with a high RTP of 97.06%. Despite a simplistic base game, it’s possible to land some big multipliers as well as unlimited free spins via a standout free games bonus round.
Gaelic Luck is of course themed around Ireland and is fronted by a simpering trio of female cartoon characters called the Lucky Lasses.
The 5 x 3 reel set is set against a green four-leaf clover background with play accompanied by the kind of score you’d expect from a game inspired by the emerald isle.
The three main characters serve as medium to high symbols – the one with the red hair is the most valuable paying out as much as 50x your stake when she appears five times on a pay-line.
The standard wild, which substitutes all other symbols, is represented by a pot of gold and rewards up to 500x your stake. The scatter is less lucrative but still pays out 50x your stake when you land five in a winning combination.
To gain access to the free games round, you’ll need to land the four-leaf clover horseshoe symbol on reels one and five. You then choose one of the lucky lasses to receive between 3 and 20 free spins. You’ll also get to pick from six clover symbols to determine your multiplier – this can be as much as x10.

Play Reel Rush at Rialto Casino
Deposit £20+, Get 100% Slot Bonus (Up to £100) + 50 SpinsReel Rush is a five reel slot that was one of Netent’s first. Launched back in 2013, this strange little game features plenty of bonus features including a free spins round and a more than acceptable RTP of 96.96%.
Featuring unsophisticated but glossy, colourful 2D visuals, it’s quite easy to tell that Netent are behind Reel Rush. A twinkly, meandering soundtrack offers a decent accompaniment to play that remains where it’s supposed to – in the background.
The reels are decorated with various fruit symbols including lozenge-shaped lemons, a pineapple and a strawberry which is the most valuable, paying out 20 x your stake when it lands five times. To win you’ll need to land at least three matching symbols from left to right.
During the base game, the symbol positions on reels one, two, four and five are blocked. These can be unlocked when you receive re-spins after a winning pay-line. A standard wild is also in play and appears in any position apart from reel one.
To gain access to the free spins round, you’ll be required to land five winning combinations in a row. 8 free spins will then be awarded and the reel positions open up, thus allowing for the full 3125 ways to win.
RTP: 96.96%, Minimum Stake: 0.01

Play Blood Suckers at Magical Vegas
Deposit £20+, Get 100% Slot Bonus (up to £300) + 30 Free SpinsBlood Suckers is a five reel slot from NetEnt with a very decent RTP of 98%. As well as this, the game includes a pick-and-win round and a free spins feature.
As appearances go, Blood Suckers looks at bit long in the tooth as it were, having been launched way back in 2009. It’s by no means a horror movie though – the reels are adorned with various objects relating to the un-dead including a bible, a crossbow, a clove of garlic and a blue elixir. These represent the low value symbols.
High value symbols are signified by a female vampire, a male vampire bedecked in purple and a king vampire who looks like Zoltar from the movie, Big. Maddeningly, Tom Hanks doesn’t make an appearance.
Zoltar, sorry, the King Vampire is most valuable paying out 20 times should you land five across a pay-line. A vampire dining on a girl’s neck serves as the wild, paying out as much as 300x your stake.
It substitutes all other symbols except the scatter which is represented by a demented-looking vampire bride. Land three renderings of this cupcake across the reels and you’ll unlock the free spins feature. 10 free spins will then be awarded as well as a prize of up to 100x your stake. During the round, all winning combos generate x3 multipliers.
When you uncover three or more stake and hammer symbols during the base game, you’ll gain access to the Vampire Slaying feature – a pick and win game set in a burial chamber which requires you to select coffins. A cash prize will be added to your balance for each vampire that you reveal. Open an empty coffin and the round ends.

Play Money Cart 2 at Videoslots
11 Wager Free Spins & Deposit £10+, Get 100% bonus up to £200Money Cart 2 is a five reel slot from Relax Gaming featuring of which the standout feature is a re-spin round and an excellent 98% RTP.
You’d be forgiven for assuming that MC2 was the sequel to Money Cart. But no such game exists. Instead, Money Cart 2 is a derivative of Pragmatic Play’s Money Train 2 – actually, ‘derivative’ is something of an understatement given that both titles are very, very similar.
The game area comprises blank and bonus symbols. The goal is to land three of the latter on the same spin in order to activate the re-spins feature. The triggering symbols then become sticky and three re-spins awarded. During these, each new symbol that appears resets the re-spins to three.
Some of the following modifier symbols are active: a bonus that awards 1x your stake, a golden bonus symbol that can award up to 20x your stake, a sniper symbol that doubles the value of coin symbols and a reset plus symbol that increases the spins reset value.

Play Baron Samedi at WinWindsor
Deposit £10+, Spin The Bonus Wheel, Top Prize 1000% Matchup BonusBaron Samedi by Yggdrasil is a Voodoo themed slot game with an RTP of 97% whose bonus features come in the form of a collectible card game. Every time the Voodoo Respin feature is triggered by getting two Free Spins symbols, three feature cards are dealt.
Those three features are active for the respin and the cards are added to the player’s collection. During the free spins bonus round which is triggered by getting three or more Free Spins symbols, three feature cards are dealt, played and added to the collection on every spin.
There are 36 different cards to collect (some much rarer than others) and the number of copies of a card needed to complete a collection varies from 10 to 50. Play Age of Egypt at WinWindsor
Deposit £10+, Spin The Bonus Wheel, Top Prize 1000% Matchup BonusAge of Egypt is a five reel slot with an RTP of 97.05%. Released in early 2018, it includes a pick-an-win game and a special free spins game that includes 3x multipliers.
Unlike many slots based on Egypt, AOE features quite a simplistic design. The action takes place against a fairly basic pyramid backdrop, while the reels are decorated with playing card lettering.
More in keeping with the overall theme are the medium-to-high value symbols including a scarab beetle and the Eye of Horus. A sphinx serves as the wild and substitutes all other symbols save for the Pharaoh Queen scatter and bonus icon. It can pay out up to 500 times your stake, provided you uncover five across the reels.
The bonus is represented by an Anubis symbol, three of which triggers the pick-and-win game. You’ll then be granted three, four or five chances to choose various artefacts to reveal cash prizes.
The Pharaoh Queen unlocks the Royal Treasury free games round and 10 spins will be awarded. The bonus symbol remains active during the round which means you can gain access to the pick-and-win game. If the queen appears three times, another 10 free spins will be credited.
RTP: 97.05%, Minimum Stake: 0.01

The Best Slot Payouts?
Players at online casino and slot sites are always looking for the best payout slots. A very important factor in this is Return To Player (RTP) but as we’ll explain later, the best payouts can often come from slots with lower RTP.
Online slot games with high RTP are popular with players for two reasons.
- Better long term returns
- The best RTP slot games are ideal for clearing wagering requirements
While there are other important metrics that should be considered when choosing a slot game to play, RTP is a pretty good starting point.
What is Slot Game RTP?
RTP (return to player) is a measure of the amount of money that an online slot will pay back over time. It’s an important piece of information, offering a reasonably accurate indicator of what will happen to your bankroll if you keep playing the same game for tens or hundreds of thousands of spins.
RTP rates are expressed as percentages and specify your average winnings per £100 staked. So if you were to play a slot game with a 98.3% RTP, you would on average receive back £98.30 for each £100 of play. This means that the house would hold an edge of 1.7%. Of course, the £98.30 is per £100 of play, not per £100 deposited; if you continue to play with whatever you have left after the first £100 of play, the 98.3% applies to that as well, rather like compound interest.
Given that RTP is based on very long-term projections, what you actually end up with after a few hundred spins may bear very little relation to the RTP figure. Nonetheless, it’s a useful bankroll management tool that can prevent you from haemorrhaging cash on slots with a big house edge. So what’s considered a high RTP slot game?
High RTP Slot Games
The best RTP slots have a return to player of 98% or more, but there aren’t too many of these. Typical examples include Beat the Bank (99.17%), Ugga Bugga (99.07%), Blood Suckers (98%), Mega Joker (99%) and 1429 Uncharted Seas (98.6%).
Medium to High RTP Slot Games
RTP of between 95% and 96% is pretty par for the course for modern online slot machines.
Once you get above 96%, anything up to 98% is considered a mid-to-high RTP slot game. There are plenty of titles that fall into this range such as Jack Hammer 2 (97.1%), Kingdoms Rise Chasm of Fear (97.06%) and Steam Tower (97.04%).
Latest High RTP Slots
Although more than a few high RTP slots have been released in 2021, many have fallen under the radar, both with players and online casinos. There are a few exceptions that can be found at certain operator sites. These include Money Cart 2 (98%), Money Cart Bonus Reels (98%) and Book of 99 (99%). But be advised that most online casinos have seen to it that these games contribute 0% towards wagering – so in all likelihood, they can’t be used to play through welcome bonuses.
Slot Game RTP – Other Things to Consider
When choosing which online slot game to play, there are a few other metrics to consider along with RTP. Variance is perhaps the most important.
RTP vs Variance
While RTP describes expected returns over the long term, it isn’t a good indicator of potential win size or win frequency. To determine this, seasoned players use a measurement called variance which essentially describes how much difference there is likely to be between the slot’s RTP and what you ACTUALLY win or lose in a session. Another, somewhat more descriptive, term for variance is volatility; the dictionary definition of the word is “liability to change rapidly and unpredictably” and that’s just what happens with a high volatility slot game. One minute, you’re winning big and the next, you’re losing your shirt.
Low Variance Slots
Low-variance slots will pay-out regular small prizes. As a result they’re often popular among players with limited budgets playing with low stakes, spinning out time on device to a maximum. Many players also find the whole experience more entertaining when they win more often.
High Variance Slots
Then you’ve got high variance slots that feature larger but less frequently awarded prizes. More often than not, big payouts are generated via bonus rounds as opposed to the actual base games which means that until and unless you trigger the bonus round, your bankroll will steadily dwindle. Unfortunately, high variance slots can drain your budget pretty quickly, even if the RTP is the same as a low variance game and you’re playing at a low spin value. This is why they’re better suited to high-rollers, who are financially and psychologically equipped to absorb the cost of waiting it out.
The main takeaway here? Although a slot’s RTP can prove helpful, it’s better to rely on variance in determining financial risk over the shorter term. Once you know this, you should then cut your coat according to the cloth. If you’ve got a small budget, stick with low variance games while also keeping in mind that the best RTP slots don’t necessarily guarantee the best payouts.
Using High RTP Slots to Clear Bonus Wagering
So let’s say you got lucky with your welcome bonus and got a big win. Now, you have to play your winnings through 35 times or more (as much as 65 times at many sites) and hope to have something left at the end of it. A high RTP slot (98% or more) with a low variance is just the ticket, right?
Wrong! If you can do those sums, so can the casino – and the vast majority of online casinos have taken steps to prevent you from using those juicy high RTP games to clear wagering requirements. Check the terms and conditions and you’ll most likely find one or more of the following:
- A list of games that contribute to wagering requirements at a lower rate than usual. With a game that contributes at 50%, each £100 of play only clears £50 of wagering, so a 35x wagering requirement effectively becomes a 70x wagering requirement.
- A list of games that don’t contribute to wagering requirements at all.
- A list of games that can’t be played with bonus, only cash.
- A list of games that are not to be played at all, even for cash, if the player has a bonus active (or else the bonus is confiscated).
Pretty harsh, eh? Good luck finding any high RTP slots that aren’t on the list! A slot in the medium to high RTP range may not be included, though – as long as it doesn’t have other features such as bonus progression that casinos take a dim view of.
Progressive Jackpot Slot RTPs
As far as progressive jackpot slots are concerned, RTP can be quite misleading as it may be quoted with or without the progressive jackpot contribution. Progressive jackpot games are super high variance, of course – it’s all about extremely infrequent, extremely large wins! As it’s almost certainly NOT going to be you that wins the progressive jackpot, there’s an argument for looking at the RTP excluding the jackpot if you want to see how quickly the game can drain your cash, but these days it is most frequently specified including the jackpot. Some progressive jackpot slots have a lower RTP than non progressive games even when you include the jackpot contribution.
Buy the Bonus Round, Super Bet etc
Extra bet options, particularly those from Barcrest, allow you to buy access to extra features such as linked spins, special mystery pay-outs and additional pay-lines, or increase the number of certain types of symbol in the game, either increasing the chances of triggering the bonus round or increasing the winning potential of the bonus round once triggered. In many cases, the game’s RTP is slightly better with the bonus bet (or whatever ) active than it is without.
Look out for Adjustable RTP Slots!
As mentioned on our new slot games page, operators are now encouraging developers to offer their games with adjustable RTPs. This practice has become really prevalent over the past two years with many of the big operators including the option, among them NetEnt, Red Tiger and Play n’Go.
For instance, Princess of the Forest has an RTP in the range of 94.85% to 97.80%. And there are now hundreds of other slots with variable RTPs including the likes of Starburst which features an RTP range of 90.05% to 96.09%.
Obviously, the problem here is that operators are able to lower a slot game’s RTP (let’s take it as a given that raising the RTP isn’t foremost in their minds). While some gamers wouldn’t sweat such discrepancies, they can have a big impact.
So when you happen across a game with a seemingly high return to player rate, be sure to check the RTP at your chosen casino before playing.
Which Developers Offer the Highest RTP Slots?
Swedish developers NetEnt have rolled out a raft of high RTP slot games such as Bloodsuckers (98%), Devil’s Delight (97.6%) and Kings of Chicago (97.8%). Microgaming is also known for releasing slots with above average RTPs, most of which are in the 96% range; for example, the classic Immortal Romance has RTP of 96.86%. Playtech includes a decent collection of high RTP slots like Goblins Cave (99.32%), Mega Joker (99%) and Alchemist’s Lab (97.32%).
What you probably don’t know is that there is one site where all but one of the games has RTP of 98% or more, and that is Tombola Arcade. Their selection of instant win games includes Spin, a suite of 11 different proprietary slot games with RTP of around 98.5% and there’s another game, Pick, which comes in at a whopping 99.6%.
Online Slots vs Land Based Slots: RTP Range
Believe it or not, most online slots feature considerably higher RTPs than their land-based counterparts, which typically have return to player rates of around 85% – rather miserly in comparison to the 96% average with web-based games. The main reason for this discrepancy comes down to expenses. To begin with, bricks and mortar operators usually lease their cabinets from the developers and must pay them a percentage of all winnings. Then you’ve got the normal costs of running a casino as well as the fact that venue owners only have a limited number of slot games with which to generate a profit and each machine can only be played by one player at a time. As a result, the RTP dial is turned right up for most physical slot machines. Online casino and bingo operators are under no such pressures and can therefore serve hundreds of the best online slot games at a far more favourable RTP.
