Barcrest is a celebrated gaming brand that’s behind the enormously successful slot franchise, Rainbow Riches. This page features many of the games from this series as well as numerous other popular Barcrest slots.
Pearl of the Caribbean is a five reel slot from Barcrest comprising 250 pay-lines, a free spins bonus and big bet feature. The game is fronted up by a female pirate and the reels decorated with an assortment of swashbuckling symbols including treasure chests, a skull and a pirate ship.
The Jolly Roger is the most lucrative and will pay out 25 times your stake if you’re very, very lucky. The pirate woman serves as the wild and can expand to activate four additional reel sets that sit above the main game area.
Land at least three coin scatters and you’ll unlock the free spins bonus feature. 8, 12 or 15 free spins will then be awarded depending on how many scatters appear. If you manage to unveil a wild symbol during the free spins round it will expand and then activate the upper reels.
The Big Bet feature includes five linked spins and three options. For £20, all pirate wilds expand regardless of their position. It’s the same for £30 with all low value symbols also removed from the reels. For £50, you get all of the above but with multipliers of x5 – although pricy, the latter option can make for some pretty substantial pay-outs.
RTP: 96%, 98% (Big Bet), Minimum Stake: 0.50

Legend of the Pharaohs is a five reel slot with 20 pay-lines, a free spins bonus round, wild reels and Barcrest’s popular big bet feature.
As with many Barcrest games, Legend of the Pharaohs isn’t very sophisticated in the visuals department. Sporting a cartoon theme, the reels are decorated with passable renderings of hieroglyphs, a scarab beetle and an ankh cross.
Every…single…spin is accompanied by an Egyptian Ney flute which is played at a pitch that would smash most glass objects. Alarmingly, the mute button is more than one click away.
In the base game, you’ll need to land at least three symbols from left to right. Standard wilds are also in play, substituting all other symbols to create winning combinations. The free spins round is activated by unveiling three or more pyramid scatters in any position.
In addition to 10 free spins, you’ll receive one, two and three bonus extras for landing three, four or five scatters respectively. There are three bonus extras: colossal symbols in which random symbols become 3 x 3 symbols, win eliminators in which all low value symbols are removed from the reels and wild reels in which an entire reel turns wild.
The Big Bet feature comprises four stake options: £20, £30, £40 and £50. All offer five linked spins with the latter tiers featuring more lucrative rewards as well as a bonus wheel made up of cash prizes.
RTP: 96.1%, Minimum Stake: 0.20

Monopoly On the Money is a five reel slot from Barcrest. Although it only includes 10 pay-lines, the game features a free spins round and a Big Bet mode that rewards linked spins and an improved RTP.
This is Barcrest’s third Monopoly-inspired slot game. And in keeping with its counterparts, the visuals are fairly basic. Joining the playing card symbols are decent renderings of classic pieces including a cat, dog and hat.
Also decorating the reels (on occasion) is the game logo, which will pay out five times your stake when five land across a pay-line. The free spins round is triggered by landing 3 or more scatters (Go symbols) in any position. You’ll then be rewarded with up to 50 free spins – before the round commences it’s possible to gamble these for the chance to win more spins.
Players looking for a fast-track to some of the game’s bonus features have access to Barcrest’s Big Bet mode.
As ever, five linked spins will be awarded and a host of features activated including sticky wilds, re-spins, a chance card bonus pick and win round and a Hotel Extension feature. The latter option, in which the reels are extended by up to 2 positions, is only available for £40 and £50 stake options.
The Big Bet mode can prove extremely lucrative given that the cat, dog and hat pieces can pay out 10, 100 and 200 times your stake – this is of course provided that you land five of them. Should the game logo appear five times, you’ll receive a pay-out of 400 times your stake.
RTP: 94% (wagers less than £2), 96%, 98% (Big Bet), Minimum Stake: 0.10
Lady of Avalon is a popular Barcrest slot game with five reels, 10 pay-lines and a free spins bonus round that includes expanding symbols.
If you’re looking for sophisticated reel animations and feature-laden bonus rounds, then you’re going to be a bit disappointed with Lady of Avalon. In keeping with most other Barcrest slots, the game is fairly simplistic, both in terms of design and game-play.
Low-value reel symbols are represented by the same kind of tired playing card icons included in far too many slot games. Given the vague-conceived fantasy theme, these are joined by an assortment of objects including spell-books, unicorns, wizards and a castle. Speaking of fantasies, if you land the wizard five times on a pay-line, you’ll win 500 times your stake.
Lady Avalon herself makes an appearance, serving as both the wild and scatter. She’ll pay out 250x your stake when she appears five times and can also activate the free spins round. When the latter occurs, you’ll receive 10 spins and a special symbol comes into play that can expand to cover the entire reel upon which it appeared.
The potential here for big wins is pretty pronounced. In theory, it’s possible to win 5000x your stake should you manage to decorate all reels with this symbol.
RTP: 96%, Minimum Stake: 0.10

Rainbow Riches Home Sweet Home is a five reel slot with 50 pay-lines, two bonus features and Barcrest’s hugely popular (and still legal) Big Bet mode.
As with the other installments, the game is headed up by an cutesey/gormless (Marmite effect) leprechaun. The game doesn’t really deviate much from Barcrest’s main cash-cow in the graphics department.
Once again, the reels, set against a twee green landscape, are decorated with a harp, a fiddle, toadstools and the game logo – the latter is the most valuable, paying out five times your stake when five land on a pay-line.
To unlock the Knock-Knock bonus feature, you’ll need the leprechaun scatter to fill the first reel. One of four doors will then open above the reels to indicate which symbols become wild. Reveal a fairy and either two or five positions turn wild. These will then come into play during the free spins round.
The free spins round is triggered by unveiling three full scatters on reels 1, 3 and 5. 8 free spins are then awarded and the fairy wilds become active. It’s also possible to win another 8 spins by landing three scatters.
There are three big bet games which can be purchased for £20, £30 and £50. Five linked spins are available with each as is a special scatter that can be nudged up and down to activate the Knock-Knock Bonus. However for the £30 option, all low value symbols are removed from the reels. And for £50, at least two doors will open during the Knock-Knock round.
It’s also worth mentioning that the RTP increases to 96% for stakes of more than £2 and 97.5% for the Big Bet option.
RTP: 94% (wagers less than £2), 96%, 97.5% (Big Bet), Minimum Stake: 0.10

Red Hot Wild is an old-school 3 x 3 slot game from Barcrest, that’s very, very closely based on the bricks-and-mortar fruit machines of yesteryear. Like many other games of this ilk, there really isn’t much to look at nor is there a great deal going on when it comes to bonus features. But as a time-passer for casual gamers, this particular Barcrest effort just about hits the spot.
To win, you’ll need to land symbols across one of five pay-lines – low-value symbols are represented by cherries, oranges, plums and pears, while blue stars, bells and bars serve as medium value symbols. 7’s are the most valuable, paying out 10x your stake.
Barcrest’s Big Bet option is also available allowing you to stake £20 or £30 a game in order to receive five linked spins. Wild symbols come into play as well and can shift down a position to help form winning combinations. For £30 stakes, the wilds become sticky, remaining fixed in position until your spins have finished. As a result of these features, the RTP raises to 96%.
RTP: 94%, 96% (Big Bet), Minimum Stake: 0.10
Black Magic Fruits is a three reel retro slot with five pay-lines and the popular Big Bet option. Released back in 2015, this old-school game wouldn’t look amiss in a land-based slot machine cabinet (from the 1970s).
We won’t concern ourselves too much with how BMF looks – suffice to say the visuals are dreadful. But that’s not really the point. Black Magic Fruits is aimed squarely at no-frills slot spinners.
The three reels are adorned with basic renderings of traditional fruit symbols. Of these, the watermelons are the most valuable paying out 200x your stake. This increases to 1250 x your stake if you land three red seven icons – these also serve as the wild and really come into play during the Big Bet feature.
The Big Bet feature rewards five spins for £20 and the RTP increases to 96.11%. Keep in mind though that standard pay-outs are halved. To compensate, the red sevens turn into standard wilds, substituting all others. They also become paying symbols that can reward up to 125x your pay-line stake.
A very, very traditional slot then, that should appeal to casual or died in the wool players.
RTP: 95.02%, 96.11% (RTP), Minimum Stake: 0.20
Winfall is a five reel slot game from Barcrest that was unveiled back in 2018. Highlights include a wheel of fortune round, a cascading reels mechanic and the popular cluster pays engine.
Although seemingly simplistic at first glance, this particular effort from Barcrest isn’t quite as ‘bare bones’ as it appears. The action is played out over five reels which are populated with a variety of gemstones.
To win some money, you’ll need to land clusters of at least three of these on horizontal and vertical pay-lines. The most valuable symbols are the red and yellow gemstones which pay out 20x and 50x your stake respectively when five of them appear in clusters.
Because of the cascading reels feature, winning symbols are replaced with new ones which can help form new clusters. The process continues until clusters are no longer possible – each winning cluster helps you climb a bonus ladder installed next to the reels.
To reach the top of the ladder and access the bonus game, you’ll need six consecutive cascades. The wheel of fortune bonus game, Extra Wilds, features a segmented wheel which contains multipliers and cash prizes.
RTP: 96%, Minimum Stake: 0.10

Rainbow Riches Reels of Gold is a ten reel slot with 100 pay-lines that’s powered by the Colossal Reels engine. Released in 2016, the game includes stacked wilds, multipliers, a free spins round and Big Bet Mode.
This particular member of Barcrest’s bountiful Rainbow Riches franchise offers nothing new in the visuals department. Once again, a gormless leprechaun bestrides the game area which is set against a plush green landscape.
The main reels comprise a 5 x 4 layout which sits adjacent to the colossal reels set that features a 5 x12 configuration. Of the main symbols, the leprechaun is the most lucrative and can pay-out 500 times your stake, provided you unveil five across a pay-line. The game logo serves as the wild and substitutes all other symbols apart from the free spins icon.
There are seven bonus features in all. As well as three different types of wilds, you’ve got a wishing well bonus, a reel win multiplier, a nearmiss free spins feature and a reel wins multiplier. The free spins round is the best of the bunch and can pay out as much as 200 times your stake. You’ll also gain access to a pick-me game where you’ll be able to win extra spins.
The Big Bet mode has four stake options. For £10, any game logo wilds that appear are transferred to the colossal reels set. It’s the same for £15 stakes but you’ll also receive up to 50 free spins should you illuminate 7 bonus symbols. For £20, you only need to illuminate 6 while for £25, lighting 5 bonus symbols will be enough to win 50 spins.
RTP: 94% (wager less than 2 credits), 96%, 98% (Big Bet), Minimum Stake: 0.10

King’s Honour is a ten reel slot that features the same Colossal Reels engine found on Rainbow Riches Reels of Gold. As a result, the game includes the same bonus features albeit with a medieval twist. The Big Bet mode is also available.
The action takes place across two reel sets. The main reels feature a 5×4 layout while the Colossal reels have a 5 x 12 configuration. Low value symbols are represented by playing card icons (brilliant!) while medium to high symbols are signified by goblets, crowns and axes.
Like Reels of Gold, King’s Honour includes an excellent array of bonus features. Highlights include transferring wilds in which stacked wilds transfer to the Colossal Reels and fully expand.
Then you’ve got the Kings Charge Bonus mechanic – a random ‘mystery’ bonus where a picture symbol is selected and then repeated across the reels, sometimes covering multiple positions.
There’s also a Siege Spins feature that awards a single re-spin when you land 2 free spin symbols. Should at least three bonus symbols appear on reels one, three and five, the Reel of Honour is activated and you’ll get the chance to spin for free spins, multipliers and cash prizes.
As is the case with all Barcrest Big Bet slots, you can also purchase five linked spins for either £20 or £30. With both options, any wild that turns up on the left reel set will expand to fill all positions and transfer to the Colossal reels game area. The same applies for the £30 mode but with the added benefit of bonus symbols which can appear in any position across both game areas.
RTP: 97.5%, Minimum Stake: 0.10

Founded in Manchester way back in 1968, Barcrest made a name for itself by creating analogue fruit machines for pubs and betting shops. For a time, the company also produced coin-up arcade games before focusing exclusively on the gambling sector.
Enjoying early local successes, Barcrest gradually expanded into the amusement and leisure sectors. After sustained growth during the 70s, 80s and 90s, the Manchester-based outfit made the leap from analogue to digital content development.
The development of Barcrest’s famed MPU motherboards were hugely important in the change of direction. They allowed its developers to create innovative games that included ‘skill’ elements such as ‘Pick ‘Em’ bonus rounds as well as wheel-based side games. These elements remain a feature in many Barcrest online slot games to this day.
Of the terminals built with the MPU motherboards, the Rio and Genesis gaming cabinets were the most successful. So successful in fact that more than 40,000 shipped in 1997 alone.
Although acquired by IGT in 1998, Barcrest continued to develop popular slots releasing Rainbow Riches in 2006. Installed in pubs, clubs and bingo halls around the country, the game became a massive hit with patrons. However, the online version was even more popular than its land-based predecessor.
Following the launch of Rainbow Riches, Barcrest began creating content for TV, mobile and web-based gambling operators. In 2011, its innovations caught the attentions of Scientific Games who purchased the celebrated brand from IGT.
Today, Barcrest is headquartered in London and operates under the SG umbrella, along with companies such as Bally and WMS. Even though the company has been surpassed by the likes of Blueprint Gaming and NetEnt, in terms of production levels, Barcrest remains one of the most iconic brands in the iGaming industry.
Barcrest slots can be grouped in three main classifications:
Despite a bricks-and-mortar pedigree, Barcrest doesn’t really develop classic slots per se. Instead, its library includes a small collection of three reel slots with classic themes. These tend to include traditional reel symbols as well as traditional functions such as holds and nudges. But their base games also include the kind of in-game elements prevalent in modern video slots such as wilds, multipliers and bonus buy options. Popular examples include 7s on Fire and 7’s to Burn and Wild Times. The latter two games remain widely available at many of the best slot sites in the UK, although the others are becoming increasingly difficult to find.
Popular Classic Slots from Barcrest – 7s on Fire, 7’s to Burn, Africa: Untamed, Black Magic Fruit, Wild Times, Red Hot Wild,
The Rainbow Riches online franchise epitomizes the colourful and cutesy approach often taken by Barcrest video slot developers. Aesthetically speaking though, they’re nowhere near as sophisticated or well-polished as some of the newest slot games.
But then Barcrest has never really been known as a graphical innovator. Instead the focus is primarily on the actual core gameplay. As with land-based variants, many of Barcrest’s online slots feature multi-level bonus rounds including click ‘n’ pick and big wheel side games. Quickly-progressing multipliers are also staple features as are the free spin rounds which are often more generous than rival slots.
Players tend to gravitate towards the Rainbow Riches slots of which there are now thirteen installments. Nonetheless, Barcrest has unveiled some decent games in recent year such as Soldier of Rome and Lady of Avalon.
Popular Barcrest Video Slots – Cash Stax, Lady of Avalon, Rainbow Riches Pick ‘n’ Mix, Rainbow Riches Race Day, Soldier of Rome
To date, Barcrest has released two Megaways slots with another penciled for release later this year. The highly-anticipated Rainbow Riches Megaways was the first to be built around BGT’s popular mechanic and was introduced in 2019. Beetlejuice Megaways is the most recent addition, unveiled in the spring of 2020. Its part of a small range of branded slots from Barcrest that also includes Monopoly Big Event and Monopoly On the Money.
Popular Barcrest Megaways Slots – Beetle Juice Megaways, Rainbow Riches Megaways, Road to Riches Megaways (23.5.21)
The games don’t have a reputation for huge pay-outs. But an average RTP of 96.25% goes some way in compensating. Barcrest slots with high RTPs include Jewel in the Crown (98%), King’s Honour (97.75%), Rainbow Riches Leprechauns Gold (97.75%) and Rainbow Riches Home Sweet Home (97.75%).
