Formula 1 2022 – Canadian Grand Prix

When is the 2022 Canadian Grand Prix?
The Formula 1 AWS Grand Prix Du Canada 2022 weekend takes place at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on 17th – 19th June 2022. This will be an absolutely gruelling weekend for the drivers and indeed all team personnel, coming as it does just one week after Baku and requiring them to travel nearly 9000 km and acclimatise to an 8 hour time difference in only 4 days.
The Canada race was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic and there is a huge amount of excitement to see it back on the calendar.
What’s on the Canadian Grand Prix bingo card?
Non track specific events
Swearing on radio, porpoising and unexpected podium are all back again; unexpected podium is now defined as a podium appearance by a driver who hasn’t been on the podium more than once in 2022 (so no Red Bulls, no Ferraris and no George Russell). Jet lagged people tend to be mistake prone, so pit stop goes wrong and qualy red or yellow ruins laps have been included as well. Making its first appearance is driver complains about grip level.
You choose!
We have three “you choose” items for Canada, all of which are pretty topical
- Russell’s streak continues/ends – “Mr Consistency” has finished in the top 5 in all 8 races so far, will he do it again?
- Latifi does/doesn’t finish the race – It’s his home Grand Prix, and probably the only time he gets to do it as it looks like he’ll be out for 2023.
- Polesitter does/doesn’t win race – There’s been a lot of polesitter doesn’t win this year, largely due to Leclerc qualifying brilliance and Ferrari fails…..
Other track specific events & topical references
For Canada, we’ve got:
- Wall of Champions – will a cleanup be needed at turn 14?
- Animal on track – The Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve has repeatedly had problems with groundhogs getting on to the track. This year, humane traps have reportedly been placed around the track a few weeks before the race, to try and remove as many of the creatures as possible from the vicinity.
- Rain affects at least one session – inters or wets have to be used in practice, qualy or the race
- Corner cutting – Vettel received a controversial 5 second time penalty for this in 2019, which lost him the win.
- Engine failure – probably a Ferrari!
How To Play
The Canadian Grand Prix bingo cards have been set to a 3×3 grid size with 9 items to mark off which we think is plenty for a single Grand Prix weekend (the Formula One 2022 Season bingo cards, which are meant to be played over several months, are bigger at 5×5).
- Tap to start
- You can edit the three “you choose” items to your preferred option at this stage. Or you can choose chaos by letting each player pick their options individually later!
- Now is also the time to play around with the background and colours, add some items of your own to the list of events and/or remove any of ours you don’t like.
- Press Generate Bingo Cards.
- Choose the number of cards you’d like to print and press Generate Printable Cards.
- You’ll be taken to a page of cards, all different from each other and unique to you
- Print from your browser (adjusting the scaling via the printer settings if necessary) or save the URL for printing later
- Don’t want printed cards? Invite through email. Each person you invite will receive a link to their very own bingo card, and you’ll get your own card too. (We don’t keep their email addresses).
- Touch or click on the grid square to mark a card online. If you mark a square during qualy it will still be marked when you return for the race.
- If you printed cards without first editing the “you choose” items, players should delete as applicable BEFORE starting to play
Once you’ve got your cards, daub the events as they happen, are mentioned in the commentary or shown on screen over the race weekend. The winner is the first to complete a line but as this has been known to happen before the end of qualy you will probably want to play on to see who completes the most lines or gets full house.
PRO TIP – Print out more cards then you need so you can pick one with something you think is extremely likely to happen in the centre square (porpoising and swearing on radio are usually pretty safe bets). That will give you a good head start on completing a line!
